I feel like a lot of you hating on 2017 are just doing it out of spite, or just to hate it because you think hating things is cool.
2017 WAS a standout year in gaming and was far and away a year of better game releases than any year since and the previous 5 years. So if you consider that 2017 was the best year in gaming between 2012-2019, then clearly it has to qualify as a stand out year.
Don't get me wrong, every year has at least 1 or 2 standout releases. But few years have so many great games released in the same 365 period as did 2017. You might personally like some of those games, like I hated Zelda, but you have to admit that they were good games. Zelda is a good game, I fucking hate it, but i wont sit here and say that it isn't a good game because that's just wrong.
If you look at the metacritic rating for all the big releases in 2017, you'll see an average far higher than the big releases in any surrounding year.
2017 brought us Zelda and Mario both of which scored 95+ in metacritic rating.
2018 brought us Fallout 76
2019 brought us Anthem
I mean just look at the differences. 2017 was a standout gaming year, whether you personally enjoyed the releases or not.
