Enslaved As It Should Have Been

Yahtzee wonders why Ninja Theory based Enslaved on the Chinese novel Journey to the West if it was just going to add killer robots.

i probably wouldn't like Odyssey to the West, but Yahtzee's idea seems pretty cool, i mean, its all sci-fi and robotty with a lot of cool stuff...

i dont know, i dont really see any discussion value in a game that doesnt really interest me with any depth :/

I think the creators never actually READ Journey to the West, just watched Dragon Ball and infered everything from there.

The reason adaptations get screwed up like this is because big budget studios, both video game and movie studios, design everything by committee. Without one person to oversee an adaptation, one person that will not ruin the integrity of the original work, adaptations are doomed.

Yahtzee's game idea was....dull. Perhaps it wasn't explained well enough, but it really didn't grab me.

I like the sound of Enslaved: Odyssey to the West more.

'Inspired by' and 'adapted from' have two different meanings, right?

Moving on...Yahtzee's idea is intriguing. I would play that game.

Yeah, that sounds like a pretty good idea. I think it would be cool if Monkeybot "shapeshifted" like a transformer, and had extending arms instead of poles.

I guess he's be like a T1000, but whatever.

I would buy that game.

BTW, currently reading Mogworld. It's... interesting. And funny. Could use a bit more sophistication in the language but whatever works I guess.

Hmm...i'm in a rough spot here..i've yet to pay Enslaved so i have no point of reference there to say things. I also have not read Journey to the West (although i have a reason to now). Yahtzee's little idea does sound pretty cool and i may give that one chance if it ever comes into existence.

Yahtzee's idea has swung the other way and seems a bit over-complicated and seems like it would be cutscene heavy...
...still it's better than Enslaved...

EDIT: just to be a dick, if I was making a game based on Monkey, the only control you could use would be to go left (which a compass would indicate as west) then after 5 seconds the game would end, saying "you have arrived"...

I would buy his game, as it did have a kind of Journey to the West start to it. All it needs is a character to be the pig character and one for the golem character, and we got a game!

Funnily enough, the first thing I thought of when Yahtzee began to lay out his game idea was that it sounded like "7 Days a Skeptic", superficially at least.

/shudders

Maybe "Monkeybot" wouldn't be such a great game afterall.

Whole-heartedly agree with you there. That actually sounds like it would be a fun game.
