One Million Kinects Sold in Just Ten Days
Kinect [http://www.microsoft.com] units in just ten days and says that sales are on track to meet its goal of moving at least five million by the end of the year.
Microsoft said all the way back in upped the ante [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/103571-Kinect-Will-Be-the-Biggest-Platform-Launch-Ever-Says-Microsoft] even further, projecting holiday sales of five million units. It was a bold statement, but one that also appears to have some merit.
Don Mattrick, president of Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business, announced earlier today that one million Kinects had been sold worldwide just ten days after it hit store shelves in North America. "This is a great start to the holiday season, and we will continue to work with our retailer partners to keep pace with high demand and deliver against our plan to sell more than 5 million Kinect sensors worldwide by the end of this year," he said.
GameStop Senior Vice President of Merchandise and Marketing recently predicted that Kinect would outsell the PlayStation Move [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/105131-GameStop-Kinect-Will-Beat-Move-Over-the-Holidays] over the holidays, even though Move came out nearly two months before Kinect. Sony announced in October that it had sold roughly 2.5 million Move controllers in North America and Europe, a very respectable number in its own right, but had taken a month to do so.
