Portal 2 Bots Built to Be Friends in Cute Teaser

[gametrailers=708347]

The 2010 VGAs didn't reveal anything new about Portal 2, but it did bring the robot cuteness.

Just about everything we need to know about brand new mechanics [http://www.amazon.com/Portal-2-Pc/dp/B002I0JIQW]. What's left for Valve to show off? How about some cute robots?

The 2010 Spike TV Video Game Awards revealed the game's latest trailer, which won't blow your mind with story or gameplay revelations, but it might make your Cute-O-Meter burst. It shows the game's co-op robots being created, and jeeze, they were apparently lovable from birth.

The bots start out as nondescript parts, but once you see GLaDOS breathe artificial life into them and their electronic eyes open, how could you not want to jump into Portal 2's co-op mode right now? In the Portal universe, even robots are ticklish. These things are like companion cubes, but with personality.

From the trailer, the orange-eyed bot appears to be the most headstrong, while the blue-eyed bot is more cautious. Eventually they both jump down into GlaDOS's transportation tubes to their possible Aperture Science success, or potential doom, with the difference being all up to you and your skills. So while this trailer didn't exactly tell us anything new, it did give us a look at the personality Portal 2 will have in addition to its brain-draining gameplay when it comes out on the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on April 20, 2011.

Its a funny trailer but its kind of useless. I can only see it as one more example that Valve can animate stuff into movies.

Doesn't giving the robots that the players play as personalities seem just a bit pointless, since we'll likely never see anything unless it's from their point of view and they'll never speak?

So whatever personality they might have had is useless since the players won't really adhere to them whilst playing...

Although, don't get me wrong...
I still love adorable robots as much as anyone.

Ok, before anyone else quotes me, as an attempt to prove me wrong, or school me in 'They can see eachother/they can see themselves in portals!'

I know that.

But, for the sake of argument, let's say someone is playing who couldn't give a rats arse beyond completing the game, will they play with emotes? Will they look to see what the other player is doing outside of puzzle solving?

Unlikely.

In a game like Portal where concentration is key (even more so with this installment) is anyone likely to be paying that much attention.

Also, just as an add on, did I ever say I was against the robots having personalities?

Also, also, Yes, Freeman is one of the most well-known characters in the world, but does anyone play Half Life thinking 'Hmmm, what would Freeman do?' At least, on their first play through anyway...

I think my point stands.

I feel portal 2 is going to be bad, hype is not a thing that equals good games e.g world of warcraft

Certainly that World of Warcraft game can't be a good game, I mean it only has 14 million players for a reason.

On Topic I love the different personalities of the characters. Creating non-human characters with personality is not an easy thing to do right.

What do you mean companion cube doesn't have any personality! It's the most fleshed out character of the entire series! They should make a companion cube game!

Farmville is an awesome game then.
I know that this has a lot to do with tastes but I still see WOW being a game toying around with technices to create addiction. (a la Farmville)

Awesome! Now all I need is a friend who plays Portal on 360. I have a friend who loves it as well, but he plays it on PS3, and never had time to get it free on PC during when steam came to Mac. Eh, I'll find somebody.

Yeah....As adorable as those robots are, I was kind of hoping for some gameplay.
Gameplay footage? Plenty of it out there already. [http://www.thinkwithportals.com./media.html] Why try harder?

^Thank you.

That's what I've been saying on almost every thread that doesn't show me some sort of gameplay or at least a related trailer cutscene.
It was hard to explain to my bf's father what Portal was without them showing some gameplay. He thought the robots were funny, but had no interest in the game itself based on the trailer.

Since when does quality equate to the number of people who use a product? To put this in perspective, Justin Bieber's album "My World" is the second best selling album of 2010.

The suggestion that WoW *isn't* a good game is just bullshit. By all means go ahead and don't find it the genre or game you like personally, but saying that WoW hasn't done pretty much everything right for what it is - from innovation in its gameplay technology to its success in creating a degree of accessibility that every form of entertainment inherently aspires to - is nothing more than ignorant, to put it nicely.

What did WoW not seal from EQ, EQ2, Lineage and RO?

It innovated shit, as someone who has played dozens of MMOs it was basically the same as all the others to me. I can see if it was your first MMO how you would be blown away with it, but if you've been playing online roleplaying games since MUDs came out there really isn't much about WoW that is going to knock your socks off or can't be found elsewhere.

Firstly, You can see yourself through portals just like in the first one, and they are ai partners or real people you play with, so you can see them and they can see you and will possible emote and react. Tis more interesting than the unmemorable girl from the first one anyway
