I feel portal 2 is going to be bad, hype is not a thing that equals good games e.g world of warcraft
Certainly that World of Warcraft game can't be a good game, I mean it only has 14 million players for a reason.

On Topic I love the different personalities of the characters. Creating non-human characters with personality is not an easy thing to do right.

It's not to everyones taste. Thus, for the original poster, is not a good game. :)So shush.

O.T. didn't really like the first one much, played a quite a bit though, creating tunnels in the ceiling and floor and jumping in :D
I didn't feel like my comment would need much explaining, but since I'm taking flak from a couple people I'll explain my point. Just because a game is not your taste does not make it a bad game, it simply means you personally did not like the game. I personally can't stand the way people around the forum praise HL2 to be a marvel of gaming. I didn't find much enjoyment out of it, but that does not make it a bad game. Justin Bieber's music is needles to my ears, however millions of teen aged girls love it making it good music to them. Until a specific game, music, piece of art, or even an entire medium has 100% of people completely against the quality of that subject it shouldn't be dismissed as being a bad subject. And as a reference telling someone to "shush" because you didn't like what they had to say is not a valid argument.

Doesn't giving the robots that the players play as seem just a bit pointless, since we'll likely never see anything unless it's from their point of view and they'll never speak?

So whatever personality they might have had is useless since the players won't really adhere to them whilst playing...

Although, don't get me wrong...
I still love adorable robots as much as anyone.
Valve did a great job giving character and personality to the L4D characters, why shouldn't it work for a pair of robots?

I wanna see these bots in action now. VALVE: SHOW SOME CO-OP GAMEPLAY! AND IF YOU ALREADY HAVE, WHERE CAN I SEE IT?

Welp, it's official, Orange is going to be my character whenever I play co-op, I love her. (Using 'her' because I have just got the notion of Orange being more of a feminine personality and Blue being masculine stuck in my head, disregard if you do not like it)
I agree, but not for the colors, It was more the way they sounded when they 'talked' to one another (Orange had a higher pitch and Blue had a lower Pitch).
Huh, never noticed that.

But no, it wasn't the colors, it was more the shapes/the fanon I've seen is that Orange is female and Blue is male xD It just kind of sticks in your head.
And Orange, either way, seems to have the kind of mentality I do in this game- dive right in, figure it out later.

I guess is what he's trying to say is their personality can not be shown unless there are cutscenes. Kinda like TF2? or do they show their personality while playing?

After all, you're playing the robots.

These things are like companion cubes, but with personality.

Did you just imply that the Companion Cube did not have personality?

Since when does quality equate to the number of people who use a product? To put this in perspective, Justin Bieber's album "My World" is the second best selling album of 2010.
The suggestion that WoW *isn't* a good game is just bullshit. By all means go ahead and don't find it the genre or game you like personally, but saying that WoW hasn't done pretty much everything right for what it is - from innovation in its gameplay technology to its success in creating a degree of accessibility that every form of entertainment inherently aspires to - is nothing more than ignorant, to put it nicely.
I wouldn't go touting the "accessibility" factor too loudly...WoW copiously bled accounts when they dumbed the game down in Wrath and had a nice, hopefully shameful walk-back over it in time for Cataclysm.

In short, the people Wrath appealed to (the "casuals" who wanted everything mega-easy) did not commit to the game. Those of us who wanted a harder game, did. And Blizzard listened.

Gabe Newell can't hear anyones complaints over the sound of the money press.
People are complaining? Don't get me wrong the people on this thread seem to have some trivial problems but those seem more like nitpicks than actual complaints. Also ever think Gabe Newell might be trying to make a good game instead of fleecing everyone for a quick buck? I know he kinda did that with L4D2 but that was ONE time.
To me it just sounds like one *****-fest after another when Valve news appears.

Freedom of speech allows me to say 'Shush' however ironic that statement is. I wasn't arguing, this rendering this whole subject no longer valid. On my part anyways. Good night God bless. xx

I thought you were going to play as Chell in single player, and that the robots were for a (separate) co-operative mode. You may not see the robot you're playing in co-op, but you'll probably be seeing the other 'bot (whichever your friend picked) quite a bit.

I don't get why Portal needed a sequel. I know I may be in a minority with this opinion but I really don't get what the second game is really going to add apart from diverting Valve's attention (and thus their fanboys' attention) from that whole Half Life 3 thing they were supposed to be working on.

Portal was brilliant, no argument here, but it was a self-contained series of clever portal based puzzles which had the gameplay ideas to last about four hours and only tried to last four hours.

Portal 2 strikes me as the moment Valve are going to become more interested in money than fanbase, if Left 4 Dead 2 hadn't already shown that.

1) Just because it doesn't need a sequel doesn't mean they shouldn't give it a try; in my opinion a series should continue until it runs out of good ideas. The Spiderman movie didn't need a sequel but Spiderman 2 was a big hit and not everyone hated Spiderman 3.

2) The sequel will introduce several new gameplay elements opening up more opportunities for new puzzles, THAT'S what the second game is going to add and while I'm on the subject,

3) New gameplay mechanics could make the game last longer without overstaying it's welcome. With the new kind of mechanics they introduce the sequel could last as long as a full price game without overstaying it's welcome.

4) It sounds a lot like you think this game will be nothing more than a cheap cash grab. Don't you think that opinion is best saved until AFTER the game comes out?

5) ValVe has ALWAYS been interested in money more than fanbase because the fanbase is their primary source of money. If they were more interested in fanbase than money they probably would've gone broke by now.

6) As I stated earlier, ValVe makes most of it's money off of it's fanbase and is so successful because it tends to give it's fanbase what it wants or what it thinks will please them. Why change a formula that essentially MADE them the video game titan they are today?

7) I know this is personal opinion but as much as I like Half Life, Episode 3 can wait if it means a sequel to a game like Portal.

8) ValVe has tried to make good on it's promise to the L4D fans with Crash Course and The Sacrifice as well as giving L4D2 The Passing AND the Mutations and even then,

9) L4D2 SHOULD have been made. Why? Because not everyone has the requirements to get Xbox Live and in most cases a full game is more satisfying than ANY amount of DLC; You'll often play a full game consistently until you beat it while with DLC you'll play it for maybe a day or two before saying "well enough of that. Time to check the New Release list".
