Crysis 2 Demo Coming to PC

Buck up, PC gamers, because it turns out you'll be getting the Crysis 2 [http://www.amazon.com/Crysis-2-Pc/dp/B002BS47YE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1296230527&sr=8-1] demo too.

The hint of annoyance that followed Crytek's announcement of an Xbox 360-exclusive demo [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/107205-Xbox-360-Exclusive-Crysis-2-Demo-Coming-Soon] for Crysis 2 earlier this week was predictable. Why make a demo exclusive to one platform, especially when, publicity purposes notwithstanding, it's the platform that least needs it? Countering the frustration were predictions that the demo would eventually come to other hardware and sure enough, Crytek said today that it's on the way.

"At this time, MyCrysis forums [http://crytek.com/]. "Stay tuned for more details."

The studio also explained why the demo was announced as 360-only, with no mention of platforms. "If Crytek were to announce 'stay tuned for information regarding a PC demo' and then nothing were to eventuate from it, people would rage that we got them hyped up for it and then never release any info, stringing them along," said [http://www.mycrysis.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=105972#p105972] community rep Adam Johnson. "It's much better to keep quiet about things until we're absolutely certain about something and then get the green light before we announce anything, that way we don't get you guys excited for something that may not happen and you guys don't get let down."

The obvious question now is, what about the PlayStation 3? Crytek is keeping mum on that front so at this point it's a matter of wait-and-see, with the option of posting a few angry forum messages while you do. There's also no word about when the PC demo will be available; Ebsworth said only that it will come out "before Crysis 2 is released."

Good.

I've played about an hour and a half of it on the 360 and whilst I've enjoyed it, all I can think about is how much better it'd be on the PC - you just can't react as quick as you need to when someone's uncloaked above you and is about to ground and pound your face.

Definetly a move in the right direction, shame that the PS3 guys are getting picked on this time.

I must wonder at the escuse though, didnt want to excite PC players about a demo until they were certain , as if a demo on the 360 console and no word on PC and PS 3 was going to go down with nary a murmur.

Wonder if the dismal reception and performance of the 360 demo made them re-think about the treatment of the franchises birth platform fans ? :p

Yay about time, I loved Crysis and I've been liking what I have seen of Crysis 2. I don't care if it's single player or multi player, either will do.

I wonder if the text will actually be readable on the PC. Seems that way, considering how freaking microscopic all the text is...

Still, hopefully it'll play better on the PC, but I'm not holding my breath.

woo! I was worried that crytek had alienated their fanbase of the first crysis. Good thing they decided on releasing a pc demo, because I was decently close to skipping the game altogether.

Yay good to hear. Guess they just need to finish fixing up some PS3 issues before announcing that as well.

Can't wait to see how good it looks. Or not good? I've got a pair of 5850s waiting to show me the light lol

Wow, really? The demo coming out before the game is released?

Unheard of! I call shenanigans!

This is a publicity stunt imo. The 360 demo was marred with issues, and releasing a better PC demo is a way to try to combat some of the negative press they got, and raise hopes that console issues will be fixed.

My money is on Crytek releasing the game a buggy mess on the consoles, releasing a launch day, or soon thereafter patch to fix some issues, then just moving along like nothing happened like they did with both Crysis and Warhead.
