BioShock's Andrew Ryan Tells Kids: "Say Nope to Dope"

An artist has depicted what a set of anti-drug posters would look like in the city of Rapture.

In many schools, there's no more clear message to kids from teachers and various organizations than that drugs are bad. This message manifests itself in various forms, including posters in the halls. Artist Julia Lepetit has spiced up these anti-drug posters with a BioShock [http://www.amazon.com/BioShock-pc/dp/B000MK694E/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1302115600&sr=8-5] theme, re-imagining what they might be like on the walls of Rapture.

In Lepitit's work, featured on Dorkly, the typical phrase of "say no to drugs" becomes much tougher to deny if you're of a certain kind of upbringing. Instead, Andrew Ryan asks: "Would you kindly say nope to dope?"

Her campaign also uses scare tactics, showing kids the negative aspects of getting hooked on plasmids, such as having hands covered in swarms of bees. Further, it warns kids of peer pressure, with one poster saying: "A man chooses, a slave gives in to peer pressure." Andrew Ryan looks pretty slick in a D.A.R.E. t-shirt.

The only poster I wouldn't put up in my local elementary school is the one written in blood by splicers. That might not go over so well with parents. The rest, however, feature a strong message. Don't do drugs, or plasmids. Not even once.

Really? Because in out school their idea of 'drugs are bad' was to show us a video with several upstanding citizens and them explaining how they tried drugs and their completely safe and non problematic relationships with them.

...Nope to dope.

And those are some cool-looking posters. The "a man chooses" one is my favorite.

After carefully weighing all the options, taking in to consideration the posters and my own knowledge, I have decided that I still wouldn't mind being able to set people on fire with a click of my fingers.

Sorry Mr Ryan. A man chooses, and I choose to be awesome.

That's right kids; If you try adam, you may get hooked. Soon you'll be walking the streets of Rapture doing all kinds of foul deeds for Big Daddy, just to get your next fix. And adam is just a gateway gene enhancement. Once you move on to the harder plasmids and tonics like "chameleon" you will begin to see the person you once were slowly fade away.

Ahh, yes, painting the world in black and white. That's always a fantastic thing to inflict upon our children. "All drugs are bad, and there is NO OTHER ALTERNATIVE TO THIS WAY OF THINKING. Clearly, anyone providing any scientific research which indicates the contrary is lying to you."

You must lend the next Bioshock your voice for a drug campaign. This is non-negotiable.

Accept quickly, Splicers don't have patience.
Steel pipes in abundance though.

Bwahahahahhaahahaaaa! DARE was a HUGE FAILURE! Kids who were in DARE ended up with lower self esteem, and MORE likely to try drugs. All those "drugs are bad becasue they ae bad" people and slogans make me wanna smoke a huge bowl. We should educate children on the dangers of dangerous drugs, but do it the right way. Don't have some goodie two shoes like GI Joe come and and say "The only drugs you should do are America and steroids."

Weed is entirely more safe than tobacco and alcohol. Hell, I'd rather raise a child in a world without caffiene than a world without weed. To condemn marijuana with things like meth is silly. 1 person out of 104 people who have smoked weed has tried cocaine. Gateway drug my ass.

I had a convo with a friend who has had a very proper upbringing. We were talking about marijuana. I was up on my soapbox giving the same spill I just gave you guys, only more polite. He couldn't really back up any claims why marijuana is bad, until eventually he just said he didn't feel comfortable talking about it. We have programmed it into people's heads that weed is just this horrible thing that shouldn't exist.

I now have 0 respect for Andrew Ryan, and for sure will never be picking up Bioshock.
