L.A. Noire Coming to PC

L.A. Noire [http://www.amazon.com/L-Noire-Playstation-3/dp/B002I0J5UQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1308846015&sr=8-1], Rockstar's hit 1940s detective game, is coming to the PC.

For about a year now I've been proclaiming to anyone who will listen, with what some might describe as rising levels of desperation, that Red Dead Redemption [http://www.amazon.com/Red-Dead-Redemption-Xbox-360/dp/B001SH7YMG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1308846042&sr=8-1] will be released for the PC. So you can imagine my surprise when Take-Two announced this morning that a big, popular, console-only Rockstar title is getting the mouse-and-keyboard treatment - and it's L.A. Noire.

"L.A. Noire is a new type of game that makes players see through a detective's eyes in 1940s Los Angeles," said Rockstar co-founder Sam Houser. "Its unique blend of story, action and crime solving will be perfect to play on PC."

The PC version of the game is being developed by Rockstar Leeds and will offer both gamepad and customizable keyboard controls, enhanced graphics and even 3D support. Minimum specs haven't been released but Rockstar said the game will run "on a wide range of PCs."

I call this very good news. L.A. Noire may be imperfect but it's still a game I very much want to play and if Rockstar comes across with some meaningful improvements and enhancements for the platform, it'll absolutely be worth the wait. And we won't be waiting long, either: L.A. Noire for the PC is slated to come out this fall.

Now if we could just get things moving on Red Dead Redemption...

This is great news! It's one of the few console games I've really wanted simply for its premise. Definitely one of the more interesting games to come from Rockstar.

But... But...

I do not have vibration in my mouse or keyboard! How am I going to find the clues?!

OT: Anyway, as I breathed in another thread: Whoop-di-doo!

Lol, what?

...You know what, never mind. At least there is one game coming out of the closet.

There are dildos that can connect to the PC via USB ^^

Fuck I already played through it once on my PS3.
They really need to announce this kind of bullshit pre release. That way they would have gotten one less sa.... fuck you marketing, damn you to hell.

I always thought this game was more suited towards the PC market than the console market personally.

(I have essentially posted the same comment on the user thread on this but since everyone's now going to look at this one, I figured I'd like to whore myself out shamelessly repeat it for a more open discussion with a greater number of chaps and chapettes.)

Yes, well... meh. RPS (Cobbett also writes for them) is about becoming the only review site I find reflects actual achievements and flaws within games - no offence Escapist, I prefer you for your vidya's.

My general impression of the game from the numerous comments and reviews and everything else is basically: "It crumbles under its own concept and the interrogations cannot support it, its devastatingly linear to the point where failure is impossible, but for whatever reason (*cough* its published by Rockstar so we know we definitely should like it *cough*) we're going to say its fucking awesome."

Fantastic. This is one of the small handful of games that I was disappointed in not playing as I don't have a console. I thought it'd be like RDR, but I'm so glad it's coming out. Fall isn't too far away, but I with it was out sooner. Lets keep our fingers crossed for a good port.

Arghhh!!!! I already bought it for xbox!! It's my understanding the devs get the same money for PC and console versions of the game (console versions are more expensive to account for money going to Sony and Microsoft I think?). If that's true why not tell people it's coming to PC? Would have saved me money and stopped the jarring graphical drop when playing it alongside The Witcher 2. :(

Still, good news I guess for other PC gamers!

Edit: On reflection I'm also worried, I hope this isn't a quick port to try and make up for the disappointing sales so far.

Gah, why was this not announced before it was released? I looked and it was pure consoles and I had to dust off my Xbox 360 to get some use out of it. I WOULD have waited for it, even if it was a 6 month wait if they said on release "Oh yeah, this will appear on PC at some point, we'll keep you informed". I feel cheated now, WHY YOU DO THIS TO ME ROCKSTAR!?! T_T

Second reaction: Why is this relevant?

Third reaction: Do some quick browsing on the subject. Orders 100 of them solely for trolling purposes.

It would be better on the PC. It is really just a point and click adventure, after all.

I am pleased that LA Noire will make it to PCs, but one thing I worry about is that it'll end up with massively overinflated requirements like GTA4 has. At least it'll give me more motivation to upgrade my video card sooner.

Neat, I've been saying all along that L.A. Noire looked like the sort of game I'd like to play, but won't because I own precisely zero consoles and am not about to go out and buy one for the one or two console-exclusive titles I inevitably think look interesting. Now that they're releasing it on a platform I actually own (unlike say... Alan Wake, burn in hell Microsoft, I'm not buying an X-Box, especially not after how you handled the news of the PC version's cancellation) I shall almost certainly be purchasing it.

Depending on how good of a port it is I may end up purchasing it some time after the fact when it's on sale somewhere of course, but I'm almost guaranteed to pick this one up - here's hoping they stop holding the players hands throughout the entirety of the game like the original release evidently did with the investigation mechanics now that they're releasing it for the "PC-gaming Master Race", ha ha!

Seriously though, L.A. Noire and The Witcher 2 seem to occupy positions on either side of the tutorial spectrum, with the former leaning heavily towards the "way the hell too much" end and the latter in the "almost entirely absent" category. It seems to me that there's a happy medium somewhere - I personally tend to loath tutorials for the simple reason that they're rarely ever fun, but even I will admit that an optional tutorial sequence or a few quick pointers whilst going about ordinary gameplay can be useful; telling us how to do something we've been doing for the entire game though strikes me as overly helpful to the point of being actively insulting. Give us at least some credit Rockstar!

Why the hell didn't they do it the first time around? I was anticipating that game until I found out it wasn't on PC.
