I bought this game at behest of the Yogscast (about 2 weeks ago) and it was the best money I ever spent. Blue/Green Ancient Depths = Favorite deck :p Plus it just feels so much better to play, and I don't have to spend money buying packs or have sex with darksteel collosi in order to get better cards, I just have to keep playing... Now I just have to finish it :(

It's much more balanced than last year's DotP, I'll tell ya that. The worst deck is Strength of Stone, and even that is solid.

The Blue deck isn't as Cancel heavy, sadly. But it gets good creatures in exchange now, at least.

Add me on PSN or Steam if you like co-op, btw.

I don't "do" versus play.

I'll never play Magic IRL due to cost...But this...This make me plenty happy.

No Xbox 360?.. I want to play Archenemy with humans :(

From what I've played competitive (far to many loses :p) the decks are very balanced I've been defeated and have defeated or come close to defeating most of them, though if I have one complaint about the game so far it's the amount of decks I was hoping for a few more than we got with the original release.

At the moments I'm playing Vampires but I'd like a Red-Green duel deck to try out in the future :/ not sure if thats possible.

Edit - I also miss my Snake's Path deck IRL :(

I like how they have included more of the Planeswalker storyline into this game although it makes a lot more sense if you have read the books and other tie in material. I really found myself missing the cheesy porno music from the first game though, the music in the second is bordering on actually quite good.

Also it features Nicol Bolas, EVERYTHING is better with Bolas.

I really like the UI and the overall polish of both the previous version and 2012. Unfortunately, the inability to actually build decks shows that Wizards really wants to use this as a slick way of getting you interested in either MTGO or the physical game. Since all you can do is add or remove the cards you've unlocked, you'll end up with huge decks full of weak cards. It probably explains the inexpensive pricing for the game, too.

Of course, as the review notes, if you really do want to play the real game you'll need to be prepared to spend hundreds of dollars, just to get your foot in the door. If all you want to do is buy a starter deck or two, you're better off with a game like Duels of the Planeswalkers. There's really no middle ground, unfortunately, and that's one of the reasons, as much as I like MTG, I have to content myself with getting my fix in Duels, as I dislike the ridiculous amount of investment the game requires for you to really be in it.

Really found it odd how the story starts with a huge push, and quickly dwindles away to nothing.

Much better balance this time, though the Dragon deck is still poorly done.

In this game, you can actually mod a bit more, as long as you have 60 cards, you can remove any card from the deck, so you can exchange your "weak" cards as you get new ones and still keep it to 60 cards.
You still have no control over lands or total freedom to build your own decks, but while it probably is mostly a "buy the real cards" thing, it also keeps the game somewhat balanced. If you could build your own deck, there would be stat-geeks who found devilishly good combos and basically force online play in to a new level of difficulty. At least now I can choose my favorite deck and feel fairly sure that it's balanced enough to have a chance at online multiplayer.

I really enjoyed the game game so far, its very addictive and some of the decks defiantly feel satisfying. Although I just have one major gripe. The AI latter in the game. The difficulty scaling isn't all that clear. Fights can get EXTREMELY cheap and enemies can often pull out ridiculous cards out of nowhere or get a series of incredible hands that are damn near impossible it defend against (Sorin was the worst offender for me).

That said it is still very fun though the AI is a bit wonky at times.

It looked pretty good.

But then I saw that you couldn't build your own deck from scratch. That was my favourite part of Magic back in the day so I passed on it.

I've been playing Magic on and off since 2001 and really enjoy this. The decks are all decently balanced and fun to play.

While this is a definite improvement of the last game, there are still a few annoying things that make it annoying mainly the fact you still can't chose what lands to tap. An advanced mode where you could choose your lands (both in deck and for mana) would have been nce. Also, the AI is ok, but a bit thick at times.

When the hell was magic cool?

Anyway, red/white or red/black for the win.

Hey does anyone know if I download the DLC for the original planeswalkers (specifically the 'different tables') will it work on the 2012 edition?

So... there is still no deck building?
In all the years i have played Magic I always found it most enjoyable to build my own decks from scratch. Missing this feature DotPW never really appealed to me. I think I'll just stick to Microprose's 1997 version of the game, which has full on deck customization and several mods with updated card libraries.

I hope they are working on expansions with new cards to unlock and 2-3 new decks. Im running out of stuff to do :D :D

Man, it's been a while since I've looked into these games. The only one I played looked like Diablo with card match battles.

My real cards are getting dusty though, I only use them for art references these days.

The only thing that pisses me off is there's no option that lets you tap your own mana. This is especially problematic in decks like the Blue/Green ramp deck, where you want to leave your greens open for a post-combat ramp spell or something, but it leaves you with 3 blue up instead.

They didn't fix that for the sequel? Christ, that's something that should've been patched in the first game years ago. I mean, it's not something that necessarily comes up often, but there's seriously no reason not to give that choice to the player. I didn't even bother with the three-colour decks in the first game - how are you suppose to manage your lands if the game refuses to let you choose which lands you tap? I'm sure you can work around it, but it's needlessly crippling, especially when it offers decks that require that level of precision to use effectively. It's just plain inexcusable.

I'm sorry, but these games are awful. Download LackeyCCG and play real Magic. You know, like, with actual deck construction?
