Christian Bale Resigns As Batman

It's the end of an era: Christian Bale and Christopher Nolan are officially done with the Masked Manhunter.

If you've been waiting with bated breath for an announcement that Warner Bros. has secured Christian Bale and Christopher Nolan for yet another Batman film, you should give up now. Bale has just announced that he and Nolan are officially finished with Batman, ending the longest actor/director team-up when it comes to live-action adaptations of the character.

Speaking to the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Bale talked about how he won't be playing the character any longer, now that The Dark Knight Rises is finished:

"I wrapped a few days ago so that will be the last time I'm taking that cowl off. I believe the whole production wrapped yesterday, so it's all done. Everything's finished. It's me and Chris - that will be the end of that Batman era."

This news isn't exactly surprising, since unofficial rumors that Bale and Nolan would be moving on after The Dark Knight Rises have been circling for a while. However, it's not entirely certain what's in the future for Batman, though more rumors <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/108861-New-Warner-Bros-Pres-Eager-to-Reboot-Batman-for-a-Justice-League-Movie>point at Warner Bros. rebooting the character so the company can make another stab at laying the groundwork for Justice League film franchise, in spite of <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/escape-to-the-movies/4838-Green-Lantern-Extended-Cut>the colossal failure that was Green Lantern.

Bale holds the record for playing the Caped Crusader on the big screen, while Nolan also holds the record for directing Batman films. Prior to this, the duo was tied with Michael Keaton and Tim Burton (but we can all agree that those Batman movies weren't nearly as good as <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Batman-Begins-Blu-ray-Christian-Bale/dp/B000PC6A3E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1322515119&sr=8-1>Batman Begins and <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Dark-Knight-BD-Live-Blu-ray/dp/B001GZ6QEC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1322515130&sr=8-1>The Dark Knight). However, <a href=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Conroy#Batman>Kevin Conroy has played Batman for the longest amount of time: The man has regularly voiced the character ever since he took on the starring role in <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Batman-Animated-Comics-Classic-Collection/dp/B00023E894/ref=sr_1_1?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1322515177&sr=1-1>Batman: The Animated Series.

This sucks so hard. Dispite the hate for him Bale is my favorite live action Batman. And wanted to see Nolan's take on Robin eventually.

They said this would probably happen and I'm glad that they have confirmed it properly, now we can avoid any early rumours that there will be a fourth movie, right? Right?

Good.

The best time to leave a franchise is at it's peak, something the American film and TV industry has never learned.

Always finish on a high, never let your creation drag on. It's why Scrubs should have died several series before it did, and why the current series of House MD is Hugh Laurie's last.

Actually, I would most certainly disagree with the notion that Begins and TDK were better than Burton's two films. At least when it comes to Batman Returns, which I still hold as the most thematically substantial adaptation.
It juggled biblical retribution and third-wave feminism with BDSM fetishism, among other things. Top that!
Nolan might be an immaculate craftsman (an incredibly skilled such, no question), but I never thought his work held much in terms of actual content.

OT: Eh, Bale could pull off the slimy socialite, but his Batman really was lacking. That voice was just silly.
Now Conroy, there's a Batman whose laughter was more intimidating than any of Bale's guttural blather.

I was kinda hoping his interpretation would be "he never existed."
That would mean Nightwing never existed. A world without Nightwing is a world I dont wont to live in.

Agreed, rather see it end with a solid trilogy of movies then watch it be driven into the ground.

I was always under the impression that this would be the last Nolan/Bale Batman so this comes as no surprise. To be honest, I would have been perfectly happy if they stopped at the second. Those are some pretty big shoes to fill.

there will be blood.
but no Robin.

Cracked.com did an article about this. they said this is the Prestige, Batman probably gets killed by Bane and some police officer who's based off a one-page character would take on the cowl.

it actually all make sense.

Prob a good thing, Bale's larynx could never take a fourth film of that ridiculous Batman voice.

I'll miss Nolan, but his Batman movies were great in spite of Christian Bale. Yeah, Bale's Batman voice is just really that bad. It makes me want to cringe through every one of his scenes as Batman. He's fine when he's Bruce Wayne, though.

Maximum of three movies and out, they said it before Batman Begins had even hit theatres, niec to see there at least some people in Hollywood still true to their word.

Arrghggle-BLARGLE-GRRAARRGH-(Explosion of gore from Batman's face)- scene missing - roll credits.

That's got to be how the series ends.

Does this mean that Paul Dini might get another chance at making a Batman Beyond live action film?
Because that would be awesome if he did. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman_Beyond#Feature_films]
