Rappin' Against Piracy in Don't Copy That 2

The 1992 anti-piracy video Don't Copy That Floppy is being updated for the digital age with a new video that features a SWAT team, your mom, hard times in prison and a very special surprise bonus.

Videogame piracy is hardly a new problem. For as long as there have been games, there have been people who copy and share them with others. As far back as 1992, in fact, the problem was considered serious enough that the Software Publishers Association released a [public service announcement urging people not to share games entitled Don't Copy That Floppy [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=up863eQKGUI], featuring a memorable performance by rapper MC Double Def DP the Disc Protector.

I have no idea what kind of impact the video had on piracy figures - very little, I would guess - but it appears that the Software and Information Industry Association [http://www.siia.net/] sees something it likes in MC Double Def. The organization is bringing back the Disc Protector and updating the concept for the current generation, with plans to unleash a new video later this summer. A teaser for the upcoming public service announcement is available now.

While it's every bit as hilariously cheesy as the 1992 video, Don't Copy That 2 [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHaAFqoVLtI&feature=channel_page] is far more entertaining in every possible way. I don't want to spoil any surprises because this is something that really needs to be experienced with an open mind, but I will say this: Watch it all the way to the end. You won't be disappointed.

wow, that was......different? Do they really think that will stop someone from pirating or copying games and music? But that just made my day. I can go to work with a smile.

Kahless copied floppies like nobody's business. Why are we supposed to believe he was being dishonorable, huh?

LOL "In any language its not just a copy, its a crime" ....except in Swedish.

My prediction: DCT2 will be the MOST pirated movie this year.

How exactly is this gonna stop people?

Pretty much the only way to stop it is to make piracy a capital crime.

One copy of Family Guy = your head on a chopping block.

Yes, file-sharing is a crime... WE GET IT!

I have one question though: why is it a crime? Not why as in "because the big corporations whine a lot", but as in "why our governments listen to their whine"...

The video was kind of funny though.

--Xvito, keeping it excellent.

I'm going to gess none of you are old enough to have seen the original in school. True this wont change anything just like the original didn't change anything. But the point here is that it is funny. Mainly in the unintentional way.

What are you trying to say?
....that Sweden doesn't have anti-piracy laws?

It's in Swedish, so I'll summarize it for those of you who don't speak it. It's a publication from the Swedish Government explaining Swedish copyright and how you aren't allowed to share copyrighted material without the expressed permission of the copyright holder.
