Three of Resident Evil 6's Multiplayer Modes Will be Paid DLC

Capcom is looking to spice up Resident Evil 6's multiplayer with post-launch DLC.

A quick primer: Resident Evil is made by Capcom. Capcom is notoriously fond of paid DLC, so fond, in fact, that the company frequently sticks it right there on the disk (though <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.375215-Capcom-Says-Its-Done-With-On-Disc-DLC>apparently that's now a thing of the past). It should come as no surprise then, that the upcoming Resident Evil 6 is going to be beaten with the DLC stick. This time in the form of three additional multiplayer modes. All three modes (it's implied they'll be sold separately) are timed exclusives for the Xbox 360. No news on a PS3 release as of yet.

In Predator mode, one player gets to play as the "Ustanak," [http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120731061632/residentevil/it/images/a/ae/Ustanak.jpg ] a hulking abomination that kind of looks like a post-apocalyptic Gary Busey. The Ustanak dodders around the map, soaking up bullets and eating people, while players who are not the Ustanak desperately try to either kill it or survive the round. Judging by the similar modes in Left 4 Dead, a better name for this game mode might be "Ragequit," or possibly "The Lonely Ustanak."

Siege mode is a fairly typical "VIP" game mode, where one team has to defend an NPC (spoiler: which will be dumb as a box of hammers) while the other tries to murder it.

Survivor Mode sounds the most interesting. Described as "a solo or team-based last-man standing versus mode," in Survivor mode, any player who dies respawns as some manner of awful beastie. If they manage to kill two human characters, they return to their human form. The last player/team standing wins the round.

So, is this a legitimate way of adding value to a title, or a fan-milking cash-grab? I guess we'll find out when Resident Evil 6 is released on PS3 and Xbox 360 on October 2nd with a PC port to follow in November.

I honestly don't expect the multiplayer to live long enough for these modes to matter, and they're going the Skyrim route with DLC? Well fuck you too, Capcom.

I really wish that Capcom wasn't begging to be put on my shitlist lately, because I love most of their IP's to death.

I think I threw-up a little into my cup.

Edit: Just for discussions sake I would like for someone with game development experience to argue in their favour, because I cannot.

Edit02: Just for clarification I am still thinking about the possibility of buying that game but this DLC debacle feels wrong to me.

Does this mean we get to boycott Resident Evil 6 now? The games sound interesting enough but if that much is already known about them why not just include them with the $60 game? Either way, I can't wait to hear how long the campaign is since that will be the main deciding factor when it comes to fan rage. Wasn't Resi 5 about 6 - 8 hours for the main campaign?

They said that each story (of which there are four) will be slightly shorter than RE5's entire campaign.

So around three and a half times the single player content, I'd wager?

To be fair, those modes seems rather cool(Except that NPC one, now they can annoy people with scort mission with maximum efficiency! Way to go, Capcom!), but apparently no one was told Capcom that is that one of those "cool" things that come in free DLC...

Sometimes I feel very glad that I am a singleplayer person.

I never really played the MP for RE5 anyway

I actually did enjoy RE5's campaign, so as long as RE6 doesn't completely skimp out on that...well will prob wait for the price to go down or rent it anyway

Forgot to mention: I'm very happy that Agent Hunt isn't one of the modes that you have to pay for.

Agent Hunt is basically drop-in drop-out verses. That is, some levels in the campaigns allow for human players to take control of some of the enemies. However, there is no difference between an AI enemy and one being controlled by a human except for the skills (or lack thereof) being displayed by the enemy in question.

I find this concept exciting.

While I won't really care because Capcom is dead to me, at the same time, who wouldn't pay good money to be, or fight, post-apocalyptic Gary Busey?

Ok is it just me, or is there something REALLY WRONG with Sony?

People here apparently like to blame Bethesda and now Capcom for releasing certain content or updates, patches, etc. On 360 and/or PC versions but the PS3 version usually getting the short end of the stick. But I think it might have something to do with Sony. Is there something going on in the background from Sony's business practices, or is PS3 just a much more difficult console to develop for?

Either way, I think its become more than a coinidence now when it seems like PS3 users are getting the boot in most of these games recently.
Microsoft pays developers and publishers for timed exclusives. Sony either won't or can't do the same.

In lieau of any apparent morals capcom (a company known for milking it's franchises) is milking players with it's latest expansion to one of it's most succesfull franchises.

Gasp and shock! How dare they! attempting to make money by exploiting a succesfull franchise and improving stockholder value!

In all attempts at seriousness. What i can see so far is that Capcom is including at least two other sorts of Multiplayer and they are including Mercernaries. So i'll stick to my old "if it's a good game Vanilla, i won't mind paying for some extra pieces" accuse me of beeing a sheep that feeds corrupt company models if you will. But if i can take away anyting from the ME3 debacle, then it is this. If i like a game, i mean like LIKE, as in giving it small pieces of folded pink letterpaper with boxes ascertaining if it's into meor not. Then i really don't mind flying an extra quid or two.

/facepalm

Flaming the shitty GFWL system and embracing the shitty "uPlay"(not) system? Sometimes people are just strange...

on topic:
Never touched the RE MP and I'm not even sure if I'm going to buy RE6 at all. There is simply to much gore and action and not enough horror.

Once upon a time the resident evil series was supposed to be set in the survival HORROR genre.

Long as these won't include substantial singleplayer content, then I don't care.

It IS bullshit, not denying that, but at least I have a choice.

I'm still mystified by the addition of online multiplayer to a franchise that doesn't need it AT ALL, but I suppose that's where the sales are, for some reason.
