More Dead Space on the Way

Eagle Eye [http://deadspace.ea.com/] director D.J. Caruso to a movie project based on the game.

Dead Space, EA's 2008 survival horror game, was a moderate success, with former satisfied [http://www.visceralgames.com/]" with the game's performance and that he hoped it would grow to become a major gaming franchise.

Schofield's Two for the Money [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/93345-Dead-Space-Developer-Loses-Key-Staff-to-Activision], has been attached to the project and EA, Caruso and the film's producers are now taking ideas from potential scriptwriters.

No word on when any of this stuff might see the light of day but it's good to see EA showing a commitment to the new property. Dead Space was a very good game that was no doubt overlooked by a lot of gamers who weren't sure what to make of a title that didn't end in a number and I'd be very surprised if a properly-supported sequel didn't fare considerably better commercially than the original.

Two sequels and a movie!? I know they were trying to develop it as a franchise, but I expected it to be a little more organic than a media onslaught. Only a matter of time till they get a countdown teaser site, a graphic novel and 3 different editions of each game.

Dead Space 2013.
Dead Space 2013: Special Edition.

:(

Oh well, I loved the first Dead Space, and Dead Space: Downfall was entertaining.
I guess I'm looking forward to sequels?

You've forgotten the ultimate galactic edition which comes with the first game, art books, making of dvd and a fulling working, damaged, stranded spaceship. Yes, I realise the oxymoron.

Then the Super Ultimate Black Hole Edition which will come with a life-size Necromorph head, a special tin covered in blood with the game inside cryogenically frozen, a Blu-Ray version of Dead Space: Downfall, a large art book, 4 action figures, and the Dead Space soundtrack.

Then a year later, the same thing will be released, just with an Isaac Clarke helmet.

I'll admit, sadly, I'd probably buy that.

Yay sequels! Yay, EA! Ya- wait, movie...?

Eh, Downfall was good.

Yay Nika!

For seriousness. I'd look forward to a sequel, the first was fun, in that visceral sense. But they better not skimp out on the Ripper.

Altman help them of they do...

I loved dead space, the AI was pretty crap but other than that everything was pretty good. As for the movie though, well... If it's anything like the other movie then I'll stay clear. That thing was horrible, Uwe boll could of done a better job.

The first one was excellent in my opinion and had a fairly intriguing (if a bit un-inventive). A sequel would be nice providing it keeps the fantastic atmosphere the original had. Its also a great movie idea providing they don't dumb it down to make it PG 13, etc for the sake of audience size.

how are they going to base a movie on a character that NEVER SAID A WORD? Furhter more, why a movie in the first place?! When will developers learn that Movies base on Video Games are a bad idea?

If this comes as a surprise to anyone, they deserve a punch in the face. EA will always milk its series. Take Mass Effect for example. When the game was first conceived, it was a trilogy. Okay, that's good. Now, EA bought BioWare and have stated they want to make Mass Effect into a franchise. God, it's disgusting the way they do business. Just ask 2K.

Then they get round to the DLC...

Sad thing is, dilapidated spaceship aside, I wouldn't put it past EA. As the OP says, it's good to see companies making a staunch commitment to new I.Ps, but this looks to be purely cynical marketing.

A film set around the universe...why make the assumption it's about the main character from the game?
