Hey, they tapped a sub-par director who's made exclusively sub-par movies. Good for them. That's how you know your franchise is going to do well.

To me, a Dead Space movie would be somewhat similar to the sci-fi/horror movie Event Horizon...

you know, board a ship, its abandoned or everything's dead, figure crap out, oh god what is that

I admit I played the first one because I got it with my xbox, but... I did enjoy it more than I first thought I would.

But sequels? Meh.... I'll have to wait and see what they offer, if its the same game, but a different setting, then maybe not.

Dead Space was inspired by Event Horizon, so a movie would be even closer. Based on this premise alone, I think it would be pointless to watch the movie.

I bought this game off Play.com on Saturday, as it was only £8. I'm expecting it to be delievered tommorow.

So, hopefully, this will be very good news.

This, I consider hilarious. Everyone complains about EA's lack of new IPs: EA puts out a new IP. EA tries to continue the IP, people start getting cynical for no reason. What, do you guys expect them to just make one-shot new IPs, ignoring the potential for sequels entirely?

Well honestly packaging the new game with the first one might not be a bad thing. Also getting a better writer (ie no military ships getting overrun by single opponents when it's highly improbable to say the least), working out some of the details (ie no 4th wall breaking shops) would also be good.

Truthfully though I suspect part of what killed Dead Space was simply the economy. People have been being attracted more to sequels I think because they know what to expect when money is tight. Add to that the relative length of Dead Space (it's not exactly a long game, nor a sandbox game you can put hundreds of hours into) and you can see some of the obstacles it was dealing with.

Personally I welcome the Action/Horror Franchise and see it having a lot of potential and questions to answer. I will also say that while the movie blew chips (I assume they didn't really talk to the game writers much) some of the other add-ons like "No Known Survivors" were pretty good.

As far as doing a movie, consider that this game is pretty much a homage to (or rip off of depending on your opinion) the whole sci-fi "horror on a space ship" genere. You basically had hallucinegenic "Event Horizon" type stuff (albeit not caused by demons), the expected creepy monsters to shoot like from "Aliens", and a *possibly* malevolent (though in this case more likely to be benevolent) Alien Artifact like in "Supernova" (Supernova being a "D" grade movie where the gimmick is that there is an alien artifact planted by another civilization that is actually a mega-bomb designed to be uncovered by civilizations once they reach a certain point so they will wiped themselves out, removing the potential intergalactic competition before it can truely get started... a variation on the basic concept of the original "Species").

If they want Dead Space 2 to be a success, they'll need more stuff like the 'twinkle twinkle' trailer. That's my favourite game trailer of recent years.

Here it is [http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-2008-dead-space/36332] for those who haven't seen it.

Two sequels and a movie!? I know they were trying to develop it as a franchise, but I expected it to be a little more organic than a media onslaught. Only a matter of time till they get a countdown teaser site, a graphic novel and 3 different editions of each game.
They already have an anime and a comic.

You know what? I don't care that they're making all this. I enjoyed Dead Space and it's good to know that they're trying to do more stuff with it. They're trying to get their name out there and sooner or later it will be a household name like Alien. Plus it just means more Dead Space for the fans. Like me.

That mitchell and webb look?

OT: I don't see why EA have decided that Dead Space was suitable for a franchise when was an average game that had average sales.

how are they going to base a movie on a character that NEVER SAID A WORD? Furhter more, why a movie in the first place?! When will developers learn that Movies base on Video Games are a bad idea?
A film set around the universe...why make the assumption it's about the main character from the game?
The first movie was alright for a sci fi horror flick. Wasn't groundbreaking or anything but it was entertaining.

I am looking forward to a sequel. Who knows they might even improve on things from the original.

I honestly think a sequel or two could work for Dead Space, just have to make it different all around. I liked Dead Space and appreciate EA for making a few new game IPs, just hopefully they won't milk it like they used to milk other franchises (or still do to some people).

Actually...........they did have an online graphic novel before it was released....it was pretty interesting, though, got me interested in the game.
