Grand Theft Auto V PC Petition Hits 200,000 Signatures

More than a few gamers are hoping to see the latest Grand Theft Auto land on PCs.

Announced on the anniversary of the disbarment of censorship proponent Jack Thompson, <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/113815-Update-Grand-Theft-Auto-V-Announced-on-Jack-Thompsons-Disbarment-Anniversary>Grand Theft Auto V promptly built up the sort of excitement that only a series of its caliber and long, storied history can manage. As new images, <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/125783-Grand-Theft-Auto-V-Gameplay-Trailer-Debuts>trailers, and details began to emerge however, it became clear that current plans for the game's release were somewhat limited. While it was confirmed to be coming out on the PS3 and Xbox 360, there's been no official announcement of versions for the Wii U or PC. It's a move that's irked some and one that some gamers don't intend to take lying down.

Point in case, a petition to bring GTA V to PC has, over the course of several months, been picking up some significant steam. Started by Mike Julliard of Yarmouth, Canada, <a href=http://www.change.org/petitions/rockstar-release-gta-v-on-pc>the petition asks GTA-makers Rockstar to bring Grand Theft Auto V over to PC. "GTA games have been a large part of so many people's lives and it's a big shame not seeing the newest iteration of the game being released on the most powerful platform," it reads. The petition, which has seen a steady uptick in support since its creation, recently broke 200,000 signatures and continues to climb towards its goal of 300,000.

In the likely case that Rockstar acquiesces, it wouldn't be the first time the studio had waited to reveal a PC version of its games. Grand Theft Auto IV, for instance, was also only announced for PS3 and Xbox 360 initially with a PC port <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/85482-Grand-Theft-Auto-IV-Coming-To-PC>confirmed months later. Here's hoping that winds up being the case here as well, and that PC gamers don't get left out in the cold with their console counterparts having all the fun.

Because we all know just how seriously companies take online petitions.

Really though, I would like a port and I think it would be in Rockstar's best interests to release one. If they do though, I doubt it would be because of this petition.

as much as I'd love to see this game on the PC, my computer had issues playing the last one. Granted there were optimization issues on the developers side of things. Still, I'd probably need some upgrades just to play it, and I'd rather save up for the next gen.

Thinking on what an amazingly terible port GTA 4 was on the PC it really makes me think that even if "we" are ever to convince Rockstar to port the damned thing to PC - there is no guarantee that the damned thing would be anywhere near playable.

I remember that I spent over $300 on a videocard (a 6800GT back in the day) and even then GTA IV ran on like 7 FPS even though I ran the game at low resolution and low graphical settings... My sentiments when it comes to Rockstar doing a competent port of GTA V for the PC are that they quite simply aren't to be trusted.

All GTA games have ended up on the PC one way or another eventually - I'd say it's just a matter of time (note: years) before they finally decide to anyway release on the PC platform.

Let's just hope the port isn't a piece of shit

Ehh, chances are they'll cock it up and stick something like GFWL on it if they did port it.

Mind you if they did I'll probably still get it even with Origin's older retarded brother lumped on, if only for a few bucks.

Huh, I guess I just sort of assumed it was getting a PC release since most AAA games these days get one, albeit sometimes a few months to a year after it drops for consoles. Still, since they've already got GTA 4, San Andreas, and I think Vice City on Steam it isn't too far fetched to assume they wouldn't already have plans to bring 5 to PC as well.

Historically, Rockstar have always been tight-lipped about releasing PC versions of GTA games.

They always neither confirm nor deny that a PC version is in the works. Then they come out with a surprise announcement a few months after the game was released on consoles, saying that there is going to be a PC version afterall.

They did this with GTA4, San Andreas, and Vice City before that.

Judging from how well Max Payne 3 played I think Rockstar now know how to do a good PC port. I am assuming and hoping that the gun-play will function the same in GTA V as it did in MP3. I am also hoping that they use Steamworks for the DRM and not GFWL.

Wait... Petition? Wasn't there already something about it being on the PC? Guess I was just tripping. I don't really care about GTA since San Andreas, nor like the "real" approach" they took with the games, but hopefully Rockstar makes a good wokr with the port (unlike with GTA4) for those that do care. Afterall GTA 5's everything is FUN FUN FUN.

What I find stupid is the fact that they're developing the game with consoles in mind from the outset. Starting with a PC version and doing a good and well-optimised console port is a better way to go in my opinion.

Why?

Because on the PC, you don't have the hardware limitations. You don't need to downscale models or textures for performance and can leave the high-resolution ones you put so much work into in the game instead of downscaling them because the hardware can't take them. You're not limited by a petty 10/14 buttons a gamepad has to offer, and can thus make much more occur organically within gameplay (instead of a contextual action button, let the players decide what to do by binding a lot of different possible actions to different keys - you've got 105+3 of them anyway), you need fewer constraints (for performance) and you can get more people to buy your game just by releasing the tools you made the game with (not costing you any effort, but bringing in tons of other people just so they can mod your game).

Pointless petition. The game is coming to PC regardless of the petition. There's been a lot of evidence that it's already in development for PC.

I seem to remember seeing that same evidence for a certain Red Dead Redemption that I am still waiting for. Don't be too certain my friend is all I would say.

It took a couple of patches but Rockstar did eventually sort out the GTA4 port.

Same here.

Hoping for RDR on PC. Expecting GTAV on PC. Liked GTAIV on PC just fine. Optimization was not perfect, but it was not crap either. Worked just fine.

I'd rather see a suspect PC port, than no PC port. Please do a port. Please let RDR be the unexplained exception.

Its seems like it, at least the aim reticules are exactly the same with the white/red indicators, basicly the only thing missing will probably be the slow-motion dive button and the weapon restrictions. They also now use the wheel as it was in Red Dead Redemption where you can choose the weapons of the same category.

What?! How?!
The 6800GT came out 2004, GTA 4 came out at the end of 2008. How did you spend 300 dollar on a 4 year old graphic card?
That was around the time i bought a 9800 gt for around 150 Euros and it displayed gta 4 just fine.
