Xbox One Controller PC Compatible in 2014

Microsoft says it will take time to make the Xbox One's controller "seamless" on PCs.

One of the biggest caveats of console gaming are the limits of controllers. At the end of the day there are only so many buttons you can comfortably fit on the limited space provides and, as it sometimes happens, those limitations brush up against the ambitions of a game. PC gaming, in contrast, frequently benefits from the expanded accuracy and button options provided by the mouse and keyboard. That said, there are still times when a dedicated controller can be preferable, and while there are plenty of options to choose from, more than a few go with the Xbox 360's controller.

With the Xbox One on the horizon however the question on many minds is whether or not PC gamers will be able to use its controller in the same way they its predecessor's. The short answer is yes. The longer one is not right away. "We know people want to use the Xbox One controller on their PC, and we do too - we expect to have the functionality available in 2014," said an Xbox spokesperson. The delays will come from the necessity of making sure the controller works on PCs just as well as it does on the Xbox One. "While it seems trivial, it's actually quite a bit of dedicated work for all that to be seamless for the user." Some will likely be disappointed by the delay, but considering the improvements Microsoft is implementing in the new controller, it may very well be worth waiting for.

Can't see much point in getting one, honestly. The games on PC that control better with a controller (which aren't that numerous) work just fine with a 360 controller, or I imagine with a lot of other third party controllers. Unlike consoles, PC users don't need to change keyboards of controllers with each upgrade.

Whatever, upgrading to a new gen of consoles is one thing, but if I won't to use a gamepad with my PC I'm sure the 360 controller I use now will remain good enough.

Not a lot of news content in this topic. I suppose this most benefits those who would for some reason game on both an Xbone and a PC. Otherwise there'll just be cheaper alternatives kicking about that do the job just as well; if people aren't already sorted for their controller of choice.

And next week we receive word that the PS4 controller will be available for PC's on the launch date for the PS4.

The current controller I use with my PC works just fine, why on earth would I ever fork over the money to upgrade to an Xbone controller? (Outside of my current one bursting into flames, and even then I'd just buy a new one through e-bay)

I'm eager to get the new X1 controller in my hands and see if the trigger rumble makes a big difference.

We can talk all you like about accuracy of a mouse or buttons on a keyboard, I just plain prefer a controller. And specifically a controller with a proper trigger (i.e. the 360 controller). I'm interested to see how it works on it's native platform and if that transfers to PC play in any substantial way.

That's because they're luddites dragging the rest of us down to their level. If I were the grand overlord of gaming, I would ban mice and keyboards in their current form for the sake of gaming.

Smells like a troll attempt here. If you're serious, have fun trying to play anything RTS or FPS related with a controller with any high level of skill.

Don't forget those sim games which require half the keyboard, or any game that requires fine control without resorting to aimbots/aim assist.

Your new controller is not important nore any improvement over any other controller out now. But thanks for showing us how out of touch from the consumer you are.

Meh, Xbox controlers always make my hands cramp up after half hour or so.

So I'll be sticking with a dualshock3 for my controler needs on the PC for the forseeable future

My dualshock 3 connected to a 99p eBay special Bluetooth dongle works just fine thank you ( i can even emulate a 360 pad in DS3 tool). Now if i could only get the ouya controller to emulate xine input.

And when it dies I'll buy another (provided I can still find them at that point)

Yeah, I cannot tell if you are being deliberately antagonistic and ignorant (the t word that when uttered by the innocent bring forth the wrath of the almighty mod) or trying to make a joke. If it is the former then you failed in your attempt given its complete lack of subtly and if the former, once again it just does not work given the additional ambiguity and comical ignorance, even if feigned.

P.S. People do not use their computers just for gaming. How could I do this with a controller?

Edit: I personally have no reason to stop using my current 360 controller and it will be less than 24 hours before hackers create an adhoc driver for the new one.

I've got my 360 controller working fine with PC, but I like peripherals so it'd be nice if I could add the new one to the collection as well.

You may well be correct, they need something to try and push that POS Operating System, i guess someone will hack it to work on windows 7 soon enough if that is the case. As much as windows 7 does wrong at least it works and has an interface that is not designed for a overpriced tablet. Did i say overpriced oh sorry i just mean tablet .

Wait, didn't the Xbox One have weird unique ports for all it's controllers, headsets etc. so you couldn't use any 3rd party peripherals on the machine? How will it plug into the computer?

Apart from that it's quite a nice thought, although I agree with the people saying it'll be a windows 8 exclusive, you just know it will.
