Grand Theft Auto V PC Petition Breaks 600,000 Signatures

The number of people demanding Grand Theft Auto V on the PC continues to grow.

Back in July, a Change.org petition calling for a PC version of the currently console-exclusive Grand Theft Auto V garnered 375,000 [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/126219-Grand-Theft-Auto-V-PC-Petition-Hits-200-000-Signatures], and now, just a hair more than a month after that, the petition stands at over 600,000 signatures.

It's a big number, but still well shy of its ultimate goal of one million sigs. The good news is even if the petition falls short, it's very likely that the game will come to the mouse-and-keyboard set anyway. Not only is there precedent - PC versions of past GTA releases have always lagged behind their console cousins - but "multiple industry sources" told prediction [http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-10-10-sources-grand-theft-auto-5-out-on-pc-early-2014] by Intel executive Chris Silva.

While the "Release Grand Theft Auto V on PC" effort continues to make headway, the infinitely more amusing "Don't Make a PC Version of GTA V" petition [https://www.change.org/en-CA/petitions/rockstar-games-dont-make-a-pc-version-of-gta-v#news] seems to have run out of steam: after hitting 10,000 signatures in mid-September, it's managed to climb to just a little over 11,000.

A part of me is surprised that due to the incessant trolling on the internet, the "Don't Make a PC Version of GTA V" doesn't have more votes than the original petition.

Although nobody in their right mind would take it seriously, it would be kind of funny.

I have no doubt they will release it eventually, but considering they still have the PS3 and Xbox versions that need issues ironed out, I imagine they are probably waiting for the time being. If they did announce the PC version while the ones already out have many known problems, they'd get a lot of criticism sent their way.

They better announce it soon. I have played the game on the PS3, but I'm starting to see spoilers everywhere, even in topics that have nothing to do with GTA V. I know how shitty it is to have something spoiled for you so I sympathies with PC gamers who had certain events from the story spoiled for them. I run that risk every time a new Assassin's Creed game comes out because of the PC delay. I think it's quite remarkable that I managed to avoid all of them.

That's the thing about GTA though. It's basically Troll Simulator 2013 already. So all the people who would usually troll the petition are the ones who want the game so bad.

Of course they are going to release a PC-Version for it.
And of course it will have atrocious controls and poor hardware optimization.

... Just like all the previous GTAs!

Wasn't the whole "don't release GTA V for PC" thing sparked by people pirating it for the XBox? Kinda tells you how blindly some people lash out on the Internet.

It's my understanding that Playstation gamers have had this sort of thing happen to them before, though it seemed to be more because of Sony's own policies than the developers' actions or preferences.

The most amusing part of this whole thing is that people honestly believe that a AAA game that made $800M in a single day hasn't already got a PC port planned.

Given the quality of Rockstars ports count me uninterseted in a GTA V port. I've got sleeping dogs, as it is don't think I need another openworld crime game.

It just seems like a missed opportunity for games to not come out on PC nowadays.

Why do people continuously feel the need to openly beg a company for the privilige of giving the company money? Especially if said company has a history if sneering at them, barely able to hide its contempt for that set of customers?
This is kind of why I'm sticking with Saints row 4. Seriously Fuck rockstar and the horse they rode in on. I'm so sick of companies screw over pc gamers (looking at you Blizzard) because the console market means more to you. Still the online mode might even be worse for pc users. I do hope it's at least a reasonable port for the people who are going to buy this.

Well, maybe because the money they gain from the PC release is like pocket change to them? Because PC users are all pirates who don't deserve to give them money? Because they suck at making PC ports? (The last one is actually true)

At this point I've kinda stopped caring. They'll most likely release the game on PC sooner or later, but I dislike the treatment we're getting. I like mouse controls when I shoot, I don't want to be punished for that. I'll get it at a Steam sale because I'm not paying full price for a game that will likely be at least 6 months old by the time it gets released.

For those people that are saying that the game will be inevitably released on PC...That is true. I think the point of the petition really is to have some kind of call of communication from Rockstar, since they're displaying Valve-Levels of secrecy, which honestly doesn't sit well with people. I certainly don't like Valve's attitude and Rockstar's is no better.

One thing to note is that GTA V will be significantly harder to port to the PC than GTA IV if for the simple fact that Microsoft recently announced their discontinuing of Games for Windows Live.

Why would THAT make any porting difference?

Petition is still off and as usual still pointless.

Also the PC only's once again acting as if they have been victimised and scorned for years, almost as if consoles have never once suffered anything bad themselves.

That would only affect the online components, since they work very similarly to the xbox live service (which is actually why they're treated with such disdain, xbox live matchmaking ect. only really works well in massive titles where there are tons of players and even then it's a bit squiffy). But i'm fairly sure if tiny indie devs can make multiplayer games run perfectly well, rockstar can manage to code steamworks into their game instead of GFWL :)

Games for Windows Live uses the same multiplayer/netcode as the XBox360. This is why many ports from the XBOX360 such as GTA IV use Games for Windows Live as that means that the programmers don't have to rewrite a large chunk of the netcode from scratch.
