I don't know why there's a petition for this when it's all but confirmed that there will be a PC release.

False. Back when GTA1 and 2 were still things, they were PC games first and console games second. The fact that the balance has now shifted to "console game first, PC game... maybe" (not just with GTA, I hasten to add) is why there's so much butthurt among the PC gaming community these days.

I'm quite surprised I've managed to keep the spoilers to a minimum.

Apart from the reviews that showed a bit of footage I don't know anything about GTA 5 and I can't wait to play it once it comes to PC.

But seriously, is it really that hard to have a multiplatform release, including PC to be released on the same day?

No, but people pay for exclusivity. Sony pays to have things on the PS3/4, and MS pays to have things on 360/Xbone. Who pays to have things exclusive on the PC? Besides, PC is a fundamentally different platform. With the Xbone and PS4 also being x86 systems, it'll be easier to port shit, but right now, it's still a lot of work to port a game one way or the other. I'm sure it's not that hard to make it run on a PC, but it is to make it run well. So it's not surprising that devs that are primarily console devs focuses on finishing the console version first and release a PC version later. I actually kinda appreciate that. 1:1 console ports tend to be assjuice.

Not going to bother with the "Devs are scum" discussion that seems to be going on here.

I'm happy for you PC guys, I had a blast with GTAV and if you're not too busy boycotting everything that doesn't release on your platform(?) you should definitely give it a go when it hits PC. While it's not the god send game to end all games that it was hyped to be (nothing ever is) it certainly is one of the best games of this year.

They know what they're doing, they knew a good chunk of players who already bought it on a console will get it again on PC, so the pricks delay it since obver a billion in 3 days isn't good enough.

Everyone says that..the whole with "the next gen will have x86 and the ports to PC will be easier".

It may be that way, but why does that even matter when publishers/big 3 will still do the same as previous gen: pay the publishers of the devs that make the games to keep the games exclusive to their console so this pointless console war continues.

Wasn't the whole "don't release GTA V for PC" thing sparked by people pirating it for the XBox? Kinda tells you how blindly some people lash out on the Internet.
No, it was spawned by piracy on the PC, and people later called it hypocritical because of the 360 version being pirated. It was likely a troll job anyway, but it wasn't lashing out at the 360 piracy at all.

In any event, many of the signatures on that petition were PC players venting their anger. A lot of "Fuck you you filthy console scrubs! PC gaming master race 4 lyf!" so if it was a legit petition it was a major failure. If it was to troll people, then it seems to have really worked.

The amount of butt-hurt on that petition is amazing. A lot of the signature messages are people trashing consoles, they sure are showing their superiority by acting like children.
...Or maybe they didn't need to be trolled for that reaction.

Why do people continuously feel the need to openly beg a company for the privilige of giving the company money? Especially if said company has a history if sneering at them, barely able to hide its contempt for that set of customers?
It's almost like people want to play games they're interested in or something.

This from the site with the complete lack of taste to give GTA V a 7/10. Ohhh now you want it on PC though. That's nice. lol.
While Greg is EIC here, he doesn't speak for everyone on the staff. Nor does the article make any reference of wanting GTA.

Really, there's nothing funny, ironic, or even sensible there. A video game news site is going to report on things related to one of the hottest games of the decade. In related stories, movie sites will discuss movies like Avatar even if they don't like them and comic book sites will talk about the new 52 even if they think it's dumb.

This is kind of why I'm sticking with Saints row 4. Seriously Fuck rockstar and the horse they rode in on. I'm so sick of companies screw over pc gamers (looking at you Blizzard) because the console market means more to you. Still the online mode might even be worse for pc users. I do hope it's at least a reasonable port for the people who are going to buy this.
To be fair on Blizz I think they need to release more than one game on current/next gen consoles before you can say they're screwing over PC gamers for the console market...

Who paid to keep GTA OFF the PC, would be my question. I mean, this should be somehow relevant to the scenario. Did Rockstar charge both companies for exclusivity and cheat them? Did Sony and Microsoft pool their cash for a "no PC" clause? Honestly, in what world does this make any applicable sense?

I didn't say they did, because I have no idea. I was speaking in a general sense. The reason I believe GTA V to be delayed for PC is the additional development required, as I mentioned in the latter part of my post. That, or spite.

The latter you have listed is probably more likely... and I wouldn't blame them either.

Both Sony and Microsoft have probably seen that when a release on the PC is delayed there are far more sales on consoles as it's more difficult (and risky) to pirate on consoles than PC. So perhaps Rockstar has a clause of "Can not PC release or mention a PC release being in progress until X days/months after Xbox/PlayStation release", money changes hands and everyone involved in the transaction goes away happy in some way. Rockstar knows PC gamers will still buy the thing via Steam in the future; Rockstar gets to iron out the PC kinks before release; Rockstar, Microsoft, and Sony don't get their first month revenue infringed upon by PC piracy. Microsoft, and Sony don't get their first month revenue infringed upon by PC purchases.

It's a sound meta business model, all things considered.

They wouldn't do it with all games as not all games have the potential (and staggering) returns as GTA. Hell GTA makes AAA look small. GTA was essentially "S class" when all is considered.

I have this little conspiracy theory where Sony and MS see the PC gaming market as a rapidly developing platform and one that is starting to intrude territory that they have always owned. Steam is pushing it deeper and deeper into that territory. Keeping the most anticipated game in a long time off thw pc could be good forn them.

"Could"? It most certainly WAS good for them that this happened.

The problem is proving if they had anything to do with it.

Very unlikely, as this is not new behavior for Rockstar. Rockstar has for a long time had PC as their second tier platform and done the bare minimum in their ports to PC.

They might have analytics that suggest that many of the people who bought GTA IV on PC also bought it prior on XBox360 or PS3 which would suggest that delaying the PC release allows Rockstar to double dip on a good chunk of PC users.

The most amusing part of this whole thing is that people honestly believe that a AAA game that made $800M in a single day hasn't already got a PC port planned.
Well, maybe because the money they gain from the PC release is like pocket change to them? Because PC users are all pirates who don't deserve to give them money? Because they suck at making PC ports? (The last one is actually true)

At this point I've kinda stopped caring. They'll most likely release the game on PC sooner or later, but I dislike the treatment we're getting. I like mouse controls when I shoot, I don't want to be punished for that. I'll get it at a Steam sale because I'm not paying full price for a game that will likely be at least 6 months old by the time it gets released.
This.

Any excitement I had for the game has been lost in a sea of bugs and meh reviews.

Is this not the same attitude which prompts publishers to abandon PC ports in the first place?

I certainly don't like Valve's attitude and Rockstar's is no better.
Valve's attitude? They've pretty much said that Half Life 3 is in development and we'll hear more when there's more to say. Valve is one of the very few game devs who actually bother to play-test their games thoroughly rather than leaving everything down to the much despised focus testing. Because of these tests major game elements can be changed and/or removed during Valve's development cycle. It would be utterly pointless to so much as show us a screenshot because it probably wouldn't be indicative of the final product.

I won't say their games are perfect but there's an undeniable quality and polish to them. If years of "secrecy" and a bad "attitude" are what we must endure for such dedication to their craft then I say that's a small price to pay.
