Superman/Batman Title Revealed, And It's Hilarious

It sounds like the two heroes plan to take their conflict all the way to the Supreme Court.

I'll cut to the chase. In a press release issued minutes ago [https://www.facebook.com/notes/batman-v-superman-dawn-of-justice/cameras-roll-on-director-zack-snyders-batman-v-superman-dawn-of-justice-from-war/243852532482001], it was revealed that Batman versus Superman has begun filming, and further, that is has an official title. The Man of Steel sequel will be called "Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice".

Setting aside the "Dawn of Justice" part for a second, let's focus on the fact that the title uses the "v." abbreviation seen in federal court cases. Clearly, the film will feature thrilling scenes of Wayne Enterprises lawyers duking it out with the Daily Planet's legal team in front of the Supreme Court. Maybe Scalia retires, and Lex Luthor is appointed to the highest court in the land. Obviously this means Lexcorp's fracking interests will be secure for the foreseeable future.

Perhaps it will end up like the Scopes Monkey Trial, but instead of concerning the right to teach evolutionary biology to Tennessee students, it'll be about the right to teach Kryptonian solar-powered abilities as a fact rather than as a theory. Then again, perhaps it'll be a freedom of information case, with Wayne Enterprises demanding Superman reveal his secret identity, and The Daily Planet demanding W.E. turn over evidence they've been creating unmanned drones intended to spy on American citizens. Of course, you can't discount the possibility that that the Kent's adoption of baby Kal-El will become an issue. I'm certain Wayne Enterprises lawyers can argue it wasn't legal, since he wasn't registered as an alien visitor when his ship crash-landed, which puts Clark at serious risk of being convicted of voter fraud. The possibilities are endless!

Honestly, Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice is perhaps the most generic and nonspecific title the production could possibly have chosen. It sounds like the kind of thing advertising executives would come up with for a series of tie-in toys included with a Burger King kids meal. Were "Batman V Superman: Rise Of Heroes or "Batman V Superman: Beginning Of Power" already taken? Probably.

Yes, obviously, this is intended to tease the formation of The Justice League. That doesn't make it less nebulous. But, as principal photography has begun, this is the Man of Steel sequel title we're getting, even if it's not the one we deserve right now. But that doesn't mean we can't pretend otherwise. Why not drop your suggestions for alternate titles in comments.

At the bottom of the page, click the gallery link to see a larger version of the official logo. Meanwhile, here's the press release in full:

BURBANK, CA, May 21, 2014 - Filming is underway on Warner Bros. Pictures' "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," the highly anticipated action adventure from director Zack Snyder, starring Henry Cavill in the role of Clark Kent/Superman, and Ben Affleck as BruceWayne/Batman.

"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" also stars Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, with Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane returning from "Man of Steel," Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, and Holly Hunter in a role newly created for the film.

"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice"is written by Chris Terrio, from a screenplay by David S. Goyer. Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder are producing, with Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Wesley Coller, David S. Goyer and Geoff Johns serving as executive producers.

Principal photography will take place on location at Michigan Motion Picture Studios and on location in and around Detroit, Michigan; Illinois; Africa; and the South Pacific.

Set to open worldwide on May 6, 2016, "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is based on Superman characters created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster, Batman characters created by Bob Kane, and Wonder Woman created by William Moulton Marston, appearing in comic books published by DC Entertainment.

This is just... I should be laughing because of how funny it is, but it's also too sad for me to do that, coupled with me just not being able to muster the energy to care.

But that is just the worst title I can even think of. Even just "Batman vs Superman" would have been better.

Every time I try to hype myself up for this movie, they do something like this. This movie is going to be a joke.
Also, Ross Lincoln: dial it back. Trying too hard, man.

Is it that bad?

I had no idea what was even meant to be funny about it until I'd read the paragraphs of explanatory text, and as is usually the way, reading about why the joke is funny didn't help it get funnier. Different strokes, I guess.

It's a testament to how shitty Man of Steel was that Superman gets second billing in his own sequel.

uh, isn't the title basically supposed to be a reference to the Justice League? This just sounds like typical comic book titleing as far as I'm concerned

It honest to god sounds like the title for a JRPG, not a Batman/Superman film. Hell, calling it Batman/Superman would've been better. Although the fanfiction writers would be all over it.

Yeah, I don't see this movie ending well at all. The title just sounds.... awful to me and how bad is it that Superman is getting second billing his own damn sequel?

Err I wouldn't take Batman to be a dawn person. Couldn't they went with an actual comicbook title like "The World's Finest" or couldn't used that for legal reason?

That would make too much sense but I guess WB thinks it would confuse the general movie going public. But Superman v Batman: The Worlds Finest has a nice tone to it.

So if Supes couldn't get his own second movie to develop his character in peace couldn't we at least have Superman v Batman as the title? Or is WB THAT lost without having Batman in the forefront of everything?

This title makes me cringe aggressively. And I thought "Edge of Tomorrow" was bad.

Does anybody really care about superman and batman anymore?

Superman is basically invincible and could punch a hole in your chest so quick that it actually happened yesterday but Batman can kill him because of reasons.

Actually, I really fucking despise Batman and all the fanboys who run to his corner; "Oh with enough planning time, Batman could kill anyone" - No he fucking couldn't, shut up.

And is that really a compliment or any kind of reality in the super hero world? Would the Hulk (I know I'm crossing brands here but most Batman fans claim he can kill anyone from anything) give Batman 2 weeks advance notice of his arrival? No.. he would walk over and toss him around like he did Loki.

Plus Batman is super lame with his no killing policy, so boring, he can apparently kill anyone, but chooses not to. Yeah, how realistic for a man with no super powers at all, besides wealth, living in a world where there is a man who can move so fast that he goes back in time.

Fuck Batman.

Oh and Vegeta could kill that ***** in 2 second flat.

Batman is the punching machine:

I would applaud WB so hard if this turned out to be a fake out and the promise of a high octane superhero brawl turns out to be a 2 hour courtroom drama where Batman plays the prosecuting attorney against Superman for the damages to Metropolis and Smallville in Man of Steel.

So this is suppose to be sequel to SUPERMAN right? cause from the title and art, id mistake this for a Batman movie where Superman shows up as a cameo <.<

That's funny? How? It would be funny if they would've called "Batman X Superman" as that would either mean it's a slash-fic or a japanese monster movie...

Just curious, but what exactly would qualify as a good title?

Maybe it's me lacking in creativity but considering you've only got a few words max there doesn't seem much to work with and just leaving out the addition doesn't really sound any less generic to me.

Dawn of Justice seems about as good as any sensible combination of three words is going to get.

Here's an idea. Why not just Dawn of Justice? Ditch the "Batman v Superman" part. It's stupid. But the subtitle would make a fine title by itself.

P.S. Thanks
