Crytek Reveal New Nanosuit for Crysis 2

A teaser trailer for Crysis 2 has hit the internet, giving us a brief look at the new, must-have nanosuit.

[gametrailers=54671]

When you're teasing a first-person shooter, showing us what the lead character - who we are unlikely to see very often - will look like seems an odd move, especially when he'll look pretty much the same as he did in the last game only with weirder proportions.

That's not all there is to it though, because as well as the video above, there is also a brochure [http://crynetsystems.com/files/NanoBrochure_final_small.pdf] that you can download from the fictional creators of the new nanosuit, which - if you can read between the lines - gives hints as to the game's plot.

Oh, and by hints I mean, 'pretty much gives the plot away'. I'd stop reading now if you want it to be a surprise.

The main improvement in the new suit is the addition of 'SECOND', an on-board AI that can feed information directly into a soldier's brain as well as mess around with their brain chemistry, ostensibly to improve combat performance. If that doesn't scream 'super-soldiers controlled by a shadowy organisation', then I don't know what does.

Of course, this is all conjecture, and it could be completely wrong, but I'm willing to put ten bucks on me being right. Anyone want to bet against me?

I never played Crysis beyond the demo, but something always bothered me. Early on you see the very mangled remains of one of your comrades who is still wearing (sort of) one of these suits. Then, he is completely disintegrated by remote control. None of your squad mates even blinks at this, the fact that your higher ups have the power to instantly murder you and leave no trace at the touch of a button. More troubling is that fact that they are more than happy to do this rather than let the suit fall into "the wrong hands."

Nah, it's too cliché. I mean, super-soldier army controlled by shady organization? Let's try another cliché: rouge sentient AI taking over super-soldiers and wants to kill humanity. Or here's another: rouge but good AI gains sentience, tries to uncover massive plot by shady organization with the help of the suit wearer.

Meh, there is just too many overused ideas to cite. I'm with ya on the bet.

Is anyone expecting an Oscar worthy story? From what I've heard, the plot of the first was fairly shallow.

While I'm here I'd also like to say that this costume design is really bland and unoriginal. Look at the suit, it's basically an anatomical drawing of major muscle groups and a pair of ski visors.

Which is also nigh-identical to the original suit.

Okay, yeah, they're both nearly identically bland and boring. Good point.

Well I hope this new suit has some kick ass new features as well. I wonder how they are going to introduce it though considering the game left off with Psycho and Nomad heading towards the island in search of Prohpet. They were all wearing the N1's which is assumed. Unless this takes the perspective of another nano suit soldier or they are given the suits some time in the game then I don't know how they can just implement it without making it random.

Although the trailer does hint to the game taking place in other locations than JUST the island so this suit could be introduced shortly after the first few chapters of the game. Also has everyone just forgotten about the aliens? the brochure doesn't really give away the entire plot, but it surely hints to something happening perhaps.

All in all I can't wait for this game to come out, with cryengine 3 as optimized as it is it's not hard to fathom the PC version having the same or even lower specs than the original game. Cryengine 2 wasn't as well optimized and warheads optimization was decent but not considerable. If the game looks as good as the original, if not better, on the consoles than the PC version should run like a dream on any average PC.

so the story plots going to be identical to Haze, but more subtle? fair do's, I don't care about the story anyways, cause with X Bla-Crysis its all about the as-graphics!

Actually, couldn't that also be used to describe Crysis? Besides the nice visuals, I mean.

You mean the game with the semi-open world, starring a super soldier with five combat types and tons of weapon customization? No, you couldn't say that.

Personally, I think the rogue AI discovers a plot by other Rogue AI to create rogue AI and infect power-armour wearing power-armour with a virus that turns them into zombies.

Also, it turns out your side is evil. But you were secretly being controlled by the enemy anyway, who were really a sub-faction of the good guys gone rogue hiring you out to mercenary AI's gone rogue: So, in the end, it turns out you have no fucking idea who you're working for or what you are so you just snap and kill everything you can see with a Chaingun Chaingun to be safe.

And then you are the Demons.

Bland and boring? not really, it's practical. Why does it need to be this flashy extravagant thing? It's something used buy the military and making it practical is the primary concern along with functionality. The suit looks fine and looks realistic and something thats feasible. I'd much prefer to play as someone wearing one of these than stupid looking 40K armor or the likes. This suit and Halo's are by far the best super suit designs made because they are simple, and functional/practical.

The semi-open world that requires you to go from base to base, with 3 entirely useless combat options and 2 average ones, generic super soldier syndrome, terrible scripting, god-awful AI and a plot that can be explained to a six-year old?

Eh, what the hell. I'll call your ten and counter with a theory that this is an excuse/vehicle to add a support character to the game that is akin to Cortana from Halo (i.e. essentially a voice in your head).

Because this is an over the top sci fi action game, that's why.
