Now how about they fix all the little problems Steam has had for ages? Like an offline mode that needs to connect to the internet to start offline.
Never had that issue...I can turn on my laptop in the middle of a desert, far from the internet, and start playing Sam & Max with no problem.
Same here. I can play Half Life on a plane for 10 hours wiht no Wifi. I think the guy just needs to reinstall his steam (note, do not delete all your steamapps).
I've had that problem as well. I was at a LAN with no internet connection, and I couldn't start steam in offline mode because it was trying to initiate a connection for an update or somesuch (even though steam was up to date when I shut my computer down the night before). We eventually solved the problem by taking out the ethernet cable then starting steam. That seemed to fix it, as it there were no active connections to attempt a logon.

*Seethes with such pure hate that my couch is slightly melted*
Digital distribution = bad.
Valve = Bad.
Bad x bad = shit.
Shit x 30 million = Complete loss of faith in humanity.

THIRTY MILLION?! I honestly though it was something like Two Million, Doesn't that mean that Steam beats the Xbox by several million?

I use steam and have done ever since Left 4 Dead's release date.

I'm so-so on my impressions of it. It's usually got great deals, doesn't drain my system resources like other DRM's occasionally do, and keeps my games constantly updated etc etc.

But then you have the client updates. And the server maintenance. And the random crashes. And getting kicked out of games because "Unable to validate client with Steam." or "Client timed out" or "No Steam Logon".

I put up with it, and I really enjoy it as a service, but claiming that "Everyone loves steam" is a bit of a stretch.

What's a Steam?

I kid, I kid. I like it. I bought a lot of adventure games on it. Haven't played most of them. Got the Telltale bundle last Christmas sale. You know...Steam sales make you buy games you never end up playing. Mostly use it for Puzzle Quest, Torchlight, and Morrowind. And 2 playthroughs of The Longest Journey.

*goes back to Morrowind*

It's fucking annoying to mod Morrowind on Steam, though. Have to change file dates and shit. Too lazy. Vanilla Morrowind will have to do.
Vanilla anything will never do for me... Since you've already bought the game, it's legal to pirate the retail copy. Then you can Tamriel Rebuilt the living shit out of it! 8D

Contrary to popular belief...it's not legal.
Wait, modding games you've bought is illegal? Really?

*Runs around in circles panicking*
no no no. Pirating a retail copy of a game you already own. THAT is illegal.
Maybe not in America, but I'm almost certain that it is in New Zealand...

I love skewed numbers. 30 Mio is LOL. How many are actually "in use"? Not even 1% for sure as any sane player uses Steam-Remover cracks to get rid of this pest called steam sticking to your legit applications. But this created account count idiocy is done at a lot of places. Important is not the number of "created" accounts but the number of actually "used" accounts... and the number of pissed off customers.
6 million people using it in one day at it's peak, not to mention the thousands of active servers and groups every time ou log on that only seals it. You gotta admit that they do throw plenty of sales so (especially for an Aussie like me) buying things off Steam is heavenly, so I'm sure the happy customers would outweigh those that are pissed.

OT: I do love Steam, in a few clicks I can be onto my game. More play, more ease and less buggering about with folders and cd's makes me a happy panda (plus it's made by Valve, you know, awesome incorporated).

Well, every single person I have talked to bar two HATE steam. I honestly don't really like it that much, I don't buy games often enough to really benefit from the discounts and I detest how it is like a nagging young child, whining about how I need to install it for a game. Just fuck off and let me play my game that I bought already.

Idk if it is still like this, but when L4D was released it wouldn't let me play single player before patching it. -_- So stupid.

Cmon Valve destroy Microsoft and there shitty gfwl. Microsoft recently stated they would support the pc but they just announced exclusive xbox 360 fallout: new vegas dlc.
Yeah, because destroying all other companys is a good thing >.>
Destroying GFWL IS a good thing. Its a HORRIBLE service, and a lot of developers are stupid enough to use it in ADDITION to steam, making the experience all the more horrible. Death to it I say!

<--- is a Steam lover. I never have to go to a game store again. ^_^
<--- is a person that doesn't particularly like Steam. Fuck you DRM on my retail-bought games and fuck you Steam for your shitty Australian prices.

True, but Microsoft do too much unnecessary harm to pc gamers, why not support your own bloody platform.
I have a quick question: what is Microsoft's biggest piece of software? I'll give you some hints - it starts with a 'W, ends with an 's', somewhere between those letters is 'indow' and after the word they spell out there's either an 'XP', a 'Vista' or a '7'. Possibly even a '95', '98' or 'NT' if the user is feeling a bit retro.

I hope to fuck you were trolling or there's just no hope for you.
