Play As a Baby Assassin in Assassin's Creed II

New details have emerged about the upcoming Assassin's Creed II - apparently, players will be taking control of protagonist Ezio during different points in his life, from baby to 45-year-old man.

In an interview published in the latest issue of Edge [http://www.edge-online.com/], Ubisoft Creative Director Patrice Desilets says that the decision to move the game's plot through various stages of the Renaissance-era assassin's life was made in an attempt to address one of the most complained-about issues in the first Assassin's Creed: its repetition.

"Assassins' one major flaw was the fact that we revealed the entire game structure early on and never changed it," said Desilets. "After one hour you knew there are nine targets, and those nine targets will be divided into nine districts. We never broke that pattern. This time we said no. This is Ezio, and Ezio has a life and needs a link from one mission to the next."

After a brief sequence where the player is put in control of the newborn Ezio (presumably in a sequence like the beginning of Fallout 3 - at least, I can't imagine how it'd play otherwise) the game will skip forward the Florentine youth's teenage years, as a 17-year-old learning how to handle himself in a fight (ergo, a combat tutorial). As Ezio grows up, he inherits his family's run-down villa, and can invest money into the city by fixing it up over the years.

This revelation helps put the recently unveiled story trailer [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/95013-Assassins-Creed-2-Birth-of-an-Assassin-Trailer] into its proper context: Several of our readers noted that Ezio reminiscing about a life-defining moment that happened thirty years beforehand would indicate that the protagonist of AC2 would be noticeably older than his predecessor. So yes, yes he is - just not all of the time.

Well, should be interesting. After all, what could you want more than to play as a baby growing up to be a ruthless killer? However, it will give us useful insight into the character, maybe even support him and his decisions. Who knows?

I hope there's a glitch like in Fallout 3, where you can get to the main part of the game as a baby. Only this time, instead of a baby taking on a behemoth, we can have a baby stabbing people (I hope!)

Seriously, what are they gonna do for this? I mean, if the baby is actually playable and is put in any risk of actually dying, the Censors will be up in arms!

I mean, there is a reason why children couldn't be touched in Fable2... (and why they never show up at all in GTA)

Wait, does this mean we will have people of varying age groups on the streets of Italy? Will we actually see children running around in a real world video game environment?!! Can we kick them over ledges into haystacks? Or will they be a means of escape like that scene in Indiana Jones?

Oh so many questions now!!!!

Yeah, from that title, I was SO hoping you were assassinating babies, not being a baby that is an assassin.
And that would coincide right with Jack Thompsons comeback... [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/95009-Jack-Thompson-Threatens-a-Comeback]

I'm fine with that. They did the same thing in Fallout 3 and I didn't mind it. It was nice because it gave the character a little more depth.

I dunno maybe this will be the arabic verison of "Mini Ninjas".

The actual vision that came to mind though was those "Three Ninjas" movies though. Hopefully Disney will never get directly involved with Assasin's Creed.

Well it worked for Fallout 3. It adds a nice little bit extra to your character's backstory.

Yes, but here's to hoping the childhood scenes in AC2 are more like Fallout 3 and less like the Fable series. Those just annoyed me, while the opening of Fallout 3 was actually very unique and immersive--one of my favorite things about the game.

I like AC1, but noted the repetitiveness of the game. It really looks like Ubisoft is going the extra mile here, and I can't wait to see what they have in store for us.
