Do not feel any guilt over that. It's in the rules, they know the risks, and they should get a real job if they have kids. Just be happy with the in-game result; any postulated real world effect is not your problem.
Ah... the moral conflict of the aim versus the spirit. No doubt the gold farmers overseers have factored in a disasterous loss such as this in their budgets. That's just good business sense. Sure, it still probably hurt badly to loose such a large fleet on what was supposed to be a very quiet day, but it's important to remember that EVE is a world of minimal rules and all you have to protect you is the friends that you have and gold farmers don't tend to have that necessary network.
You didn't have to wipe them out, but it is important to push back against those who go against the spirit of the game in order to make their own profit.

This story dragged me, grabbed me by the lapels and made me sit through to the very end, emotionally draining and yet, ultimately, life-affirming. I am not the only geek who wants to spend Christmas snuggled up in my gaming chair, watching the pixels scroll in front of my eyes and racking up virtual achievements. Good on you, Jim. Keep up the good work. But don't forget to eat lots of cake and do it as a couple. Couples who game together, stay together 
Companionship and togetherness is the best way to spend Christmas. Huddling up and treating it like any other day sucks. That doesn't mean you can't come home and play games after the holiday merriment, but making it the plan for the whole day sets sail for fail.
Having spent several holiday seasons pretty much alone, sometimes it's just what you need, then again, sometimes it's the last thing you need.
Ah yes, it's lonely at the top...
And by "top", I mean the dim corner that gaming nerds move into during high school, and that many never leave. It's not all bad, though. Sometimes you can grab unwary passers-by, like a troll that lives under a bridge! "What's that, you liked Peggle? Hey, me too! You should also try out this fun little game I play, World of Warcraft..."
Of course, it never hurts to leave the corner for a few hours and admit that hearing a little Christmas music won't cause you to start bleeding from the ears

I looked at This Gaming Life, and i'm wondering, is it sold in bookstores as well, or is it a purely online thing? It looks interesting.

I personally wouldn't feel much guilt, those who live by the video game are invertible blown up in the farthest reaches of deep space. At the very least you made it seem really rather epic and cool, I'd heard that EVE was a rather sombre and boring affair but I do like the idea it seems possible to get a group of people together for sole purpose of blowing up as much stuff as you can.

Indeed. I love to spend time with those i love and this year i have an extra to add. However, i know once the fun of family and boyfriend is over, it will be back to my computer for good old games...PratzStrike said:
That reminds me of the time I was in 2moons and went on a killing spree. But it wasn't the usual "kill all the low level characters because I'm a douche." It was a bot hunting spree. Anyone who plays 2moons probably knows about the hordes of bot farmers. So one day I got tired of the whole thing and started hunting them down, eventually getting to around 25 killed before dieing.

Well look at it this way:
#1: Christianity is not *that* big in China, and for a lot of them it was probably just another day. It's notable that on the holidays the casinos where I worked ran special deals on transport to bring in crowds of people from Chinatown on Christian/American holidays so the place was even more packed than usual (and also more crime ridden so it was nearly impossible for use security guys to get the day off).
#2: I am not a big fan of "open PVP games" for a lot of reasons, what you did was part of the game. Had that simply been a rival corp, that's pretty much what you do to them anyway.
#3: These guys ruin the enjoyment of the game for thousands of other players.
#4: China can't really be considered a friend of the US or even most of the West, and while totally microscopic you just struck a blow against their economy, albeit a tiny one.
#5: You really don't know much about their operation in the final equasion. It might have been a sweatshop operation, it might have been some kids doing a part time job after school, and it might have been a basement operation with a bunch of people doing it for their personal enrichment all on their own.
At any rate, while some of those reasons are better than others, the bottom line is that I don't consider their "conditions" to be an excuse for ruining the enjoyment of many other players. Sometimes you just do what you have to do.
Look at it this way, when you get past the propaganda of World War II, in order to win that war we pretty much bombed the living cr@p out of Germany's infrastructure. This involved decimating their food supply to starve them, and destroying every factory we could find. Those factories being operated not only by civilians, but captured allied prisoners who were doubtlessly praying for rescue but instead got bombed to death by their own people.
This is to say nothing of what we did to groups like the Volkssturm or Hitler Youth.
There is such a thing as a trade war, or economic war. Even if these guys were being held prisoner by the Triad or a local Tong, or had family members being held hostage, or whatever story some of these guys have told online, it still doesn't change the fact that they are destroying the economy in "our" bloody games. This is one way of getting them to knock it off. In theory I suppose some 11 year old might have gotten their head chopped off by gangsters because daddy didn't make enough ISK, but I really doubt it. But even IF that did happen by ruining the business think that you might be saving countless other 11 year olds since if you can make it so MMO currency farming isn't profitable they will stop trying to do this stuff.
Sadly nobody awards medals for messing with online farmers. For going above and beyond on Christmas you might even deserve one. Like the Roger Young of online currency wars. If such things were recognized you might've even had a real Space Soldier ship named after you in the far future.
