Question of the Day, March 17, 2010

Your answers to yesterday's question [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/6.180537-Question-of-the-Day-March-16-2010] got us wondering: Do you choose your starter Pokemon based on its Type or its appearance?

Well, I used to choose them by type, as I only played Pokemon Red...
So I always chose the fire type, Charmander... but Charmander was cuter that the others, at least to me...
Cute is important too!
Haaauuuuuuuu~

I never played pokemon games. I never even played the trading card game. Although I did collect a lot of the cards and they are now sitting in my closet somewhere and they're from the original generation, like season 1 maybe 2.
...
...
Would thoses be worth anything now?

I chose cuteness, but It's not just that. I pick a type, then capture the coolest looking pokemon I can find of that type.

I have never played Pokemon games. I am too OCD that it would have driven me insane trying to collect them all.

On my first playthrough of the game I always go for coolness. Once I know the gym types I always choose depending on type for my second run ^^

I choose mine based on who I like most. Fire types just happen to be most likeable for me. So I always chose Charmander in Red, my most played Pokemon game. Although in Silver, I chose Totodile since he looked the coolest to me. But Cyndaquil was a fire type, so I sometimes chose him over Totodile.

I choose the fire starter in every game-- it has become a tradition.

Let's face it, there are a million water and grass Pokemon-- you have so many other cool choices when it comes to those types. Fire Pokemon are far rarer and tend to become available much later in the game.

I've only played one Pokemon game, and I started a few days ago, actually. I started off with Charmander. But he was both my favorite type AND the cutest. And his name is WINRAR.

Well like a lot of comments so far, I always go for the fire starter even though I'm usually screwed on the first gym but I just like having fire. That being said other than Charmander is one of the cutest pokemon, is that I usually trade to get all 3 starters in the beginning anyways.

It is usually a toss up between water and fire. After that I go based on who has the coolest evolutions.

Usually the type, but in HG/SS, I went for cute.

SINCE IT FOLLOWS ME AROUND.

Chikorita, all the way!

RAAAAAAAAAAAAATAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

Yes, yes, I do care about the 'cute', it makes me all fuzzy inside, like helping a bunny escape poachers in Guild Wars.

im sorry, i couldent help myself

OT: Well, i went for fire most of the time sence the first two games had two of the coolest starters, and they where both preety cute.

but from what ive seen, most of the starters go by this chain

Cute:

Kinda cute:

Badass:

But Chikorita is the exception that proves the rule.

I, being a mature gamer with adult sensibilities, naturally pick my starter based on its potential to LOOK A PENGUIN I MUST HAVE IT.
