Final Fantasy IX Confirmed for PSN

One of the most underappreciated Final Fantasy titles has been confirmed for release on the PlayStation Network.

After many hints, Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada has confirmed that Final Fantasy IX will be released as a download on the PlayStation Network in Japan. The game is expected to come to other territories as well, but videogame companies work in mysterious ways so we'll have to wait for an official announcement.

As translated by tweeted video [http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/03/27/ffix_psn_release/] by Yoichi Wada announcing the game's digital release, that news has arrived.

Pricing and a release date were not announced, but the game is likely to cost around $9.99, the same price as the digital releases of stellar [http://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-VII-Playstation/dp/B00000JRSB/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1278693555&sr=1-1], and steady as well, so Square Enix basically can't lose by re-releasing IX.

Final Fantasy IX marked a return to a more traditional, super-deformed fantasy setting after VII and VIII gave the series more of a futuristic tone, which is probably why many gamers introduced to RPGs with VII failed to take notice. Up until Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy had taken place in worlds populated by goblins, knights, and magicians, though Final Fantasy VI did add a steampunk edge. Final Fantasy IX starred thief-with-a-tail Zidane, knight Steiner, black mage Vivi, and Aeris wannabe Princess Garnet. The detailed equipment system was also more traditional, and equipping items was a way to teach characters new abilities. Final Fantasy IX's characters are a little too cutesy even for my tastes, but the game is a must-play for every RPG fan. If you missed it during the PS1 era, give it a go when it (most likely) comes to your region on the PlayStation Network this year.

Still haven't gotten around to playing my copy of IX. Bought the classic 3 in one go when I picked up my first gen PS3. If XIII's difficulty doesn't drive me insane I may have to start IX once I finish it.

I really should pop these disks in some time and actually play FF9, they've been sitting in my collection for the better part of two years ignored...

Nice.
sigh if only i had a PS3 or PsP........
I like the Art Style and i also like the way the Equipment can teach Skills.

If it works in any way like the Equipment in Tactics did i should pick it up easily.

Still got my physical copy of FFIX, but it might be worth getting the PSN version so I can play it on my PSP. Hmmm...

YES! This was my first FF game (hell, it was my first RPG)! I'm so glad to see it return. Any game that can make a character who looks like a cannon fodder enemy of Assassin's Creed 2 have a story and personality you like so much that you actually can remember them deserves a medal. I'm glad to see that it's still around (if my discs get messed up, I'll atleast be able to get it again).

However, Sony, when are you going to either put Legend of the Dragoon on PSN or remake it with next gen graphics?

Its Ok, not my favorite Final Fantasy. But still its better than 12, we must never forget how bad 12 was.
Evil Twin?! EVIL TWIN?! Do you not respect me at all FFXII?!

Why would they re-release FFVIII? It sucked.

Also, it's just not the same as owning a copy, in my opinion.

I thought it was already there. When I got VIII a couple of months ago I could have sworn I saw it. I'm glad to see that it'll be there now though, I loved that game ^^

Never understood why some people hate 9. It's got to be one of my all time favorite games.

Aeris wannabe Princess Garnet.
Um...No...No way in hell she's a Aeris wannabe. She's not even close to her.
Garnet is BETTER than Aeris.

OT: Amazing. I still have my FF9 discs.

PLAY THIS, PS3 OWNERS! PLAY IT!

FFIX is my favourite of the lot, or from what I have played from the series. I love it.

I already own the discs so I have no need to download it from PSN, but I recommend you guys play it.
