You know, it really says a lot that when the government pulls out the 'child porn' card they've done such a thorough job discrediting themselves that I don't automatically assume he's done anything unethical. For all I know it's just freaking anime pictures or something harmless. In fact, I find it a lot easier to believe it's something like that than actual children.
As for the other thing, well, not convinced either. It's 4chan - I wasn't there so I can't speak for 'tone' but I can't imagine most people -wouldn't- joke about a school shooting on 4chan.

I never get surprised at 4Chan for this stuff anymore. They may be a pit of mostly scum and villainy, but damn if they don't tackle some of these other bastards even more proficiently.

That's pretty much what keeps me from ever going near 4chan, despite my obvious curiousity.
The whole CP thing, but then I wonder if it's ( I know how bad this will sound) as bad as it sounds? If there's genuine CP there, I don't ever want to see it, but if it's all dodgy loli hentai and 16 year old camwhores going topless on cam, I don't really care.
I draw a massive distinction between teenage girls willingly showing themselves off for attention, putting the laws aside for a moment, and actual photos of child abuse. I also think 'sexting' should be dealt with, but putting teenagers on a lifetime sex register for rapists and pedos for a bit of basic curious exploration is a bit much.
So maybe someone who knows the place can inform me, there again, can I trust a 4channer, or will I be trolled into seeing sick stuff?

You gotta ask what kind of 'other' evidence the fbi found. If he had multiple guns and thousands of rounds of ammo, then YES, that is evidence that 4chan stopped a bad guy before the deed. If he had made a map of his school on a fps then that is totally normal. Manuals on making explosives and the actual chemicals brought together and ready for use is pushing it...
Also, he's a community collage student. It's not like anyone is FORCING him to go, and he's actually paying THEM. If you don't like the guys at your CC, then just transfer to the CC across town.
This guy doesn't need to be put away for a long time, he doesn't even really need to go to prison. He just needs some good therapy and possibly some medication.

Well done by them, from the article his death threats sounds a bit more specific (mentioning place and uploading) than mere jests, enough so to be illegal. And if he really had pictures of children being molested, then he of course belong behind bars for that too.
