E3 2010: Link Returns In Zelda: Skyward Sword

At the Nintendo E3 2010 press conference, Shigeru Miyamoto revealed The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, with full 1:1 Wii MotionPlus swordplay.

Ever want to play a Zelda game where you swung the Master Sword and Link followed suit? Shigeru Miyamoto took the state at E3 2010 during the Nintendo press conference to announce the latest Zelda: Skyward Sword [http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=76865].

Unlike Wii Sports Resort [http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=6821] to let you swing in different directions. If an enemy blocks high, swing horizontally - and the Wii nunchuk is Link's shield, letting him move and bash away with "natural movements.

The same natural movements are involved with the other items - you hold the nunchuk and Wii Remote like you would hold a bow and arrow, and you can either throw bombs overhead or roll them along the ground in a bowling motion. And Link was getting his Simon Belmont on with a whip.

The presentation is going on right now - more as we learn it. But new Zelda? Hell yes. This game looks gorgeous. Art style seems between Twilight Princess and Wind Waker [http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=20497].

There were some technical difficulties that Miyamoto and his translator attributed to wireless interference, but he assured everyone that the game would work perfectly when it was playable on the show floor.

Skyward Sword is scheduled for next year.

Greg Tito has more from the Nintendo E3 conference [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/101374-E3-2010-From-the-Nintendo-Press-Conference].

The 1:1 is a lie, watching it now and it's so finicky. It's quite funny really, BUT if the actual release has more streamlined controls, it'll probably be a good game.

EDIT: They're also 'apparently' having inteference from other devices...I don't believe that for a second...

Sounds veeery interesting, might actually get a Wii for this if its implimented well. Nintendo seem to like to do that with its core games, such as Phantom Hourglass utilizing all the apsects of what the DS could do, high in fun I thought

I may never understand the appeal of motion controls. If I want a game to be a workout I'll play any of the great established Dancing games.

Oh please. Do you really think Nintendo would intentionally debut something like that if they weren't confident in it? Nintendo is more savvy than that.

We'll be at the Nintendo booth this week to find out for sure.

Only talking about the motion controls, are they John? Did they say anything about options to use a classic controller if the player (like me) thinks motion controls are a waste of time? If not, it's time for me to yell at Nintendo...again.

They need to understand this. If I want to excercise, I'll ride a bike or go running. If I want to sit on my ass and do nothing, I'll play video games. AND I DO NOT WANT THOSE TWO PAST TIMES INTERMINGLING!! /rant

Plus, if it isn't perfect they'll delay it.
I swear, these youngsters don't know anything about how often Nintendo can delay a Zelda game...

Sounds wonderful, I'll definatly be following the production of this closely, although I can imagine the animations being a little wonky. I admit I don't know much about the Wii MotionPlus, however.

The game...honestly didn't impress me. They have a whole year though to improve it and work out all the kinks, but until I get through Twilight Princess, I won't be picking this up anytime soon. The rest of their event is really letting me down as well. Wii Party? Seriously? Mario Sports Mix? I won't buy them, but I'm sure there are others who will go out to purchase it.

In fact I do. Look at the Wii. I can't say how terrible the controls were before motion plus. And even now with motion plus the controls still leave a lot to be desired. The motion control in most games right now boils down to "flay arms wildly about in random directions"

...fuck. Yes.

Aw, man, I have to wait until next year? Well, I suppose it'll be worth it. It was the use of the motion plus that interested me most, and if it's anywhere near the level of control in Wii Sports Resort or Red Steel 2, I'll be ecstatic.

I suppose I could wonder about the content and quality of the game itself, but...with fifteen or so preceding games of excellent quality, I honestly don't think I have anything to worry about.

Will we get the boomerang or the grappling hook first? like a great man once said

Who wants to bet that the control scheme does not work properly?

I never said that they weren't confident in it, it's just that the demo didn't seem to go 100% to plan.
