$150 Price Tag for Kinect Confirmed

It's official, Kinect will stab you in the wallet for 150 bucks.

A listing on the Microsoft store [http://store.microsoft.com/microsoft/Kinect-Sensor-for-Xbox-360/product/C737B081] has confirmed the long rumored $150 price point for Kinect. The rumors started back in May [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/100957-Natal-Expected-to-Stab-Gamers-in-the-Wallet-at-149] as the result of a leak from a trusted source, and just last week retailers began listing the device at that price [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/101444-Retailers-Guess-150-Price-for-Kinect].

Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg said on Twitter [http://twitter.com/aarongreenberg/status/16420240796] that the retail "estimates" were "purely speculative," although they would seem to have been fairly accurate after all.

According to the listing, Kinect comes with the sensor itself, a power cable, and a wi-fi extension cable, making no mention of any software. Greenberg did also say in his tweet that the pack-in details were yet to be decided, but if the listing is accurate, then you might be looking at an investment of a couple of hundred dollars to be able to get the most out of Kinect. It's going to be interesting to see what happens in the coming months as the marketing machine for Kinect gets going.

I'll probably buy it. I've been looking forward to this Kinect thing, and $150 isn't so expensive compared to some crap I've bought.

The short answer to the question if it will be worth $150, no. The long answer: NO, because it's mainly a gimmick that the majority of games won't even use and is as bad of an idea as the Playstation Move or the Wii... well, the Wii could have been decent if it actually had decent games, but my point still stands.

Just another excuse to not get it. Espically when:

I thought normally the price would be lower, not higher for Britain. $150 now would be something like £100 to £125 pounds, thanks to the recession. But if it's been increased, then it's a con, which will prompt anyone with common sense to import.

Ooo. This one hurts. Especially when MS hasn't shown anywhere near the amount of gameplay with it compared to the Move (and the Move is a solid 50 bucks less). They're going to need some serious PR to get this one through the consumer's throats.

Considering it's looking like the games will be full price, meaning you'll be talking $200 for Kinect + 1 game when the same money nets you a Wii and 2 games, never mind the fact that you need a 360 for Kinect to work (so add $100 to Kinect's price) and I can't help feel that this is going to bomb. UK price is TBC, although £200 seems a bit high. More likely to be around the £130 mark, assuming no VAT rise today.

.... Who was your maths teacher? $149 = £100 roughly. The price would in all probability be £99 here.

Very expensive, and no interesting hardcore games shown at E3. I thought that Kinect was a cool control system, but $150 is way to much for a remote. I do hope a decent game comes out soon or this might just die.

I don't see this being a Day One purchase for me at all. Until the games prove themselves, then this is an absolute failure.
