Kinect Pricing Not Confirmed After All

Microsoft says that the $150 price tag on its store is not necessarily Kinect's final price.

When a listing for Kinect with price of $149.99 appeared on Microsoft's store earlier this week [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/101535-150-Price-Tag-for-Kinect-Confirmed], it seemed to lay to rest all the rumors about its cost. But Microsoft is now saying that $150 is not necessarily the final price, and is only an estimate.

The listing [http://store.microsoft.com/microsoft/Kinect-Sensor-for-Xbox-360/product/C737B081] on Microsoft's store has now had a disclaimer added, which reads: "Official pricing has not been announced. $149.99 is an estimate only and subject to change."

Further confirmation that the $150 price point for Kinect wasn't final came from Microsoft's Director for Policy and Enforcement for Xbox LIVE, Stephen Tolouse; who said on Twitter [http://twitter.com/Stepto/status/16747731630]: "Guys I have nothing to do with Kinect Pricing. All prices now *no matter what the retail source* are placeholders. We've not announced. :>"

With one publisher already expressing concern [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/101583-Activision-Concerned-About-Kinect-and-Move] about Kinect's price point, the cost associated with it when that announcement does come, is going to be very important indeed, as it will have significant effect on how attractive the device will appear to consumers.

Well now. Was it really a place holder, or did Microsoft realise nobody wanted to buy the Kinect for $150? It wasn't really hard, we were all complaining... Everywhere.

I'm willing to say it was $150, but ten Microsoft realized, "Holy shit! Have you seen the internet response? Lower the price!"

I'm sorry, but I just can't get over the fact that a high-ranking Microsoft executive is using smilies. WE CAN SEE THROUGH YOUR DISGUISE, CREATURE!

Wouldnt suprise me if the price gets raised to be honest, and seeing as this is M$, probably charge a subscription fee to play the thing aswell. Not likely, but who knows, M$ are just the type of company to do that

If it's an estimate, shouldn't the final pricing be around that point? Either way you put it, that's still a lot.

Unless they make it free they can't hope to even make a dent in the Wii's market like they are obviously trying to do.

Estimate must be code for testing the waters. They just happened to find said waters to be full of angry piranhas.

I'm still thinking it'll be $125-150, unless Microsoft is feeling generous and price it at $99. Haha, I said generous and Microsoft in the same sentence. Silly me.

"Sorry bout the placeholder guys. Turns out that third camera wasn't quite good enough. $250 is the new price!"

Calumon: I'm not putting anything past them.

This is totally a result of the backlash at the "rumored" $150.

Well, it's not targeted at us anyway. So, I don't care about the price. at least they're not going, "BUT THIS IS FOR YOU CORE GAMERS, TOO"!

You keep bringing that up as if one publicity stunt undoes the company's entire history. Protip: It doesn't. Now stop posting the same thing, it makes you look rather silly.

Yeah, it's not like they gave out FREE 360s at E3 or anything. Oh, wait.
Yeah, A whole [however many] 360s given away! That's a massive part of the [however many millions of] 360s sold.
