Fan Remakes World of Warcraft in StarCraft

As it turns out, the StarCraft II map editor is so powerful, it can make Blizzard's other games, too.

Back when the StarCraft II Galaxy Editor was first released, a fan created a MarioKart-type game [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/100235-Hey-Kids-Are-You-Ready-for-StarCraftKart] after barely a day. That really should have clued us in to how versatile the thing was. Now, you have custom maps of all shapes and sizes, from Tetris to rail shooters to ... WoW?

Yep, as you can see above, at least one gamer is trying to cross the streams of online gaming by mixing Blizzard's megapopular MMOG with its megapopular RTS. I'm pretty sure this violates at least two natural laws, but I'm not clear on which ones they are, exactly.

Okay, I may have been exaggerating a little bit. This isn't actually WoW - there's no real gameplay to speak of. It's just somebody running around with an Alexstrasza model in a manner - and a world - highly reminiscent of Blizzard's online monstrosity. What's striking is how much it actually manages to look like WoW, albeit with some better graphics (and worse performance).

But man, just think of the potential here. What if someday, you could log into StarCraft II and start playing WoW or Diablo III - without ever leaving StarCraft?

Truly, it's enough to make shivers run up one's spine.

He loves both WoW and Starcraft?
How does he have time to do anything, let alone anything like this?

God this makes me want a proper graphical update to WoW, looks soooo good, close to Aion levels minus the char detail.

I've seen a lot of custom maps, large projects like these would never work, the gameplay simply doesn't work.

That said, I've seen an FPS made with the editor (it was AWFUL, but technically functional)

None of it will ever be practical, but it IS very interesting, and proves that the creator tool is unbelievably powerful.

This is pretty much my only motivation for buying Starcraft- There are some awesome things being done with the editor.

Sadly, it doesn't motivate me to buy it more than the £40 price tag puts me off.

Quite a beautiful level, but I don't expect to see anything spectacular gameplay-wise from the SC2 Editor for a while still. It'll probably get there, but it doesn't seem the community has been able to utilize it fully yet.

That looks pretty nice, but gameplay-wise, WoW was already recreated in Warcraft III. I remember playing as a Pandaren Brewmaster and not having a clue what I was doing.

That looks like it took a fair bit of work. Kinda confuses me how something like that is possible with just a freakin' editor though. >.>

Impressive. While I've never played Starcraft, I can definitely say that WoW is a massive undertaking to be remade in Starcraft II like that. It's more than likely a labor of love. (Heh, aliterations...)

Creative and stylish, I like it.

Think you going to be waiting for a while =(. Blizzard has already hinted that they have some new ip that they are working on, and lets be realistic we're still waiting on D3. Unfortunately you can't rush greatness.

I might not be able to rush greatness, but that doesn't mean I cant rage on the internet and send death threats to the studio :D

That project would look really good on an application to Blizzard. It was very nicely done.

If they made it any more flexible, you could boot your computer with StarCraft 2 and run Windows in it.
