That really should have clued us in to how versatile the thing was.
John. Mr. Funk. Funkmeister. Listen:

All you're seeing here is stock StarCraft 2 art mixed with stock World of Warcraft art, which is easily imported into SC2. But importing art doesn't make the SC2 Editor versatile*. I hate to say it, but the SC2 Editor is actually very limited. In many ways it's even a step back from the Warcraft 3 World Editor, and it certainly can't compete with the versatility of most FPS editors. Take it from an experienced modder whose work is in the Battle.net Hall of Fame: the SC2 Editor is nothing special.

* It's not the "Galaxy Editor," by the way. "Galaxy" is the name of SC2's scripting language.

If they made it any more flexible, you could boot your computer with StarCraft 2 and run Windows in it.
Someone's already done that too with the editor:

See the graphical upgrades that are in SC2, and WoW:WotLK, I have hope that the new WoW expansion will bring a much needed graphical upgrade to the "vanilla" world.

this makes me want to use the starcraft map editor... Unfortunatly, I struggle to make a basic map, so I doubt I could make something like this :(

WoW ! lol This really is quite something. I didn't know the SC2 editor was this powerful. I'd like to get this mod just to try it out.

Considering that Warcraft III's editor was used to make a Proto-WoW for the Orc campaign in TFT, this is hardly surprising.

That is just plain awesome, and true credit of what can be returned for all that effort put into making Starcraft 2. If I was a Blizz dev, I would want to put that vid in a framed video player and have it on my wall. I did notice the framerate taking a noticeable plunge, but at least it wasn't into slideshow depths. I bet with only a little bit of tweaking that little hiccup would become inconsequential. What was most standout was the fact that the dungeon had a ceiling. You wouldn't normally expect that detail to be included in a top-view RTS engine.
Interesting that about half of the posts were comments about Warcraft 3's editor being used for a WoW mod. A lot of people there who don't bother reading the thread before posting. Plus missing the point that WoW was already based off of Warcraft 3(It tells in how the scenery is presented). Starcraft, being a scifi genre game, isn't something you'd expect to so quickly be used to create something like that. No cookies for the crew of Captain Obvious.
And there isn't going to be a World of Starcraft. Not for at least a good couple of decades. The next MMO Blizzard is working on and has yet to name is a completely new IP. Nothing to do with Starcraft, Warcraft, or Diablo. I wouldn't mind though if it was with something even earlier in the Blizz timeline. Vikings, perhaps?

after witnessing the flexibity of staredit (the first starcrafts editor), i thought i was prepared for anything galaxyedit could throw at me (I thought I was expecting the worse)...

How very very wrong I was.
This goes to prove one of my personal laws of life, NEVER underestimate blizzard, even if it merges with satan activision.
