If they made it any more flexible, you could boot your computer with StarCraft 2 and run Windows in it.
Someone's already done that too with the editor:

WHY IS THIS POSSIBLE?!?!??!!!!?!

Obviously looks better on a new engine. I highly doubts it's actually playable.

This makes me want to get SC2... even though I got bored of WoW in a few weeks.
So... much... potential!

This is pretty much my only motivation for buying Starcraft- There are some awesome things being done with the editor.

Sadly, it doesn't motivate me to buy it more than the £40 price tag puts me off.
You might still be able to DL the editor off the SCII site and use it they had it up there during the beta so people could have maps ready by release.

So the editor is kind of like a really powerful yet confusing Little Big Planet, or a really simple yet less defined Garry's Mod?

I'm no fan of World of Warcraft; but you know what? I still think this is kind of cool. It really shows how much can be done with Blizzard's flexible engines. I always loved the old StarCraft and how much you could manipulate that engine. I always loved playing customs and there were even movies! In fact, I would LOVE to see them do StarCraft II online movies for fun now we have a 3rd dimension. I would love to see a return of the Scary Movie map too, my all time favourite custom from SC 1. In that map, you would have up to 8 players.

Initially you are granted with a civilian with no weapon, and he has 3 lives. However one player (Occasionally 2, but very rare unless there was a full house) would get a Dark Templar alongside his civilian. He would have to use his DT to chase the poor civilians and slash them, they lose the game if they lose all 3 lives. There were secret hiding spots and the level was always dark and moody and when Civilians would die you would hear a genuinely freaky scream echo through the map as the killer cackles with glee. However, if the players manage to keep at least one life and make it past 7 minutes they would be given a set of options in order to guess who the killer is. If they guess wrong, they lose their chance (Even if they have multiple lives left they lose) but if they guess the killer right, they are given a science platform (Since it is an observer) and some "Cops" to track down the Dark Templar. It was really fun and smart killers could fool other players by staging chases and hoaxes, which was fun.

But what would be the absolute BEST thing someone could do in my eyes is make a "Renegade" style multiplayer mode. That game may have sucked solo, but the MP was amazing and still holds up. The concept was ingenious, you still had a base on each map and you played as one of the two (Or in this case, 3) factions while harvesters gather minerals automatically, unless they are destroyed which means they need to regenerate and these resources were required to fund your team, but instead of being the commander each player plays as a member of the army. They could train to be various units as well as hero units, or buy vehicles to play around with and even super weapons and the overall goal remained the same - decimate the enemy. How cool would it be to have that in SC II with all three races? Playing as a ghost with an nuke primed, sneaking into a Protoss base and calling in a nuke and when it strikes you call in your buddies to mop up the mess or piloting a massive carrier and engaging in an air to air battle with a fleet of Terran Vikings as an ominous Battlecruiser can be seen in the distance lurching its way to back up their buddies.

That would be awesome! I doubt it can be modded that much, it would need a LOT of players but still that's a cool idea. I'd also buy it if Blizzard made an entire game based on that concept. You hear that Activision? I'll blindly shell out if Blizzard makes a good first person multiplayer squad based game set in the SCII universe but retaining the RTS elements, just with the players in the shoes of the soldiers.

I love the water effects, in fact they look just like the water effects in Cataclysm.

My guess is that this is not Starcraft II's engine at all.
I suggest that Escapeistmagazine should examine more closly its sources.

this all makes me wonder, when you are an interceptor (the carriers attack unit) and you are in third person, would the game let you see the inside from the interceptors point of view?
to be honest I wouldn't be surprized.

Bah, that was a terrible WOW recreation. I mean, for any form of accuracy, there should have been a dozen spawn campers and/or griefers appearing and pwning the player the instant the game started.

Okay, seriously, that was pretty darn cool.
