Multiplayer Confirmed For Arkham City

Whether friend, or foe, Batman won't be alone in the follow up to Arkham Asylum.

Batman: Arkham City [http://www.amazon.com/Batman-Arkham-City-Playstation-3/dp/B002I0F5M8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1283441376&sr=8-1] will feature some kind of multiplayer mode, according to the latest issue of PlayStation 3 magazine PSM3 [http://www.computerandvideogames.com/sites/psm/]. In a feature on the game, the magazine said, "Multiplayer is a certainty, but no details on this yet."

Co-op play seems the most likely scenario, and Catwoman's prominence in the teaser images, not to mention the absence of Robin or Nightwing, would suggest that she is filling in for Batman's usual sidekicks. There's also images from the game that show Catwoman attacking Two-Face, (pictured above) and her and Batman sharing a tender moment [http://ve3d.ign.com/images/74400/PC/Batman-Arkham-City/Screenshots/], suggesting that the pair's love/hate relationship is in full swing in Arkham City.

Of course, co-op isn't the only option. The predator challenges from the first game could make for a really fun multiplayer experience, if one person takes the role of Batman - or Catwoman - and the rest are the thugs trying to take him - or her - down. It's a little different than your standard multiplayer, but done right it could be an incredibly tense game of cat and mouse.

It's going to be interesting to see what the multiplayer modes in Arkham City turn out to be, even if we do have to wait until developer Rocksteady is ready to tell us. Batman: Arkham City is scheduled for release next Fall.

All I hope is that the single player mode doesn't take a hit through some pointless need to cram in multiplayer.

Between this, Splinter Cell, and Assassins Creed, multiplayer in stealth games is becoming more common.

Yes, yes, yes, YES! Please, RockSteady, don't let the main game be hurt because of this.

So maybe co-op play? That might be fun for predator rooms, synchronized take downs and what not.

Oh dear.

Wait...Co-Op? Well I can't say I'm disappointed. Co-Op makes everything better, even when it's shoehorned in horribly and ham-handedly (I'm looking at you, Onimusha: Dawn Of Dreams!).

Seriously, is it too much to ask to have Robin, Nightwing, or Red Robin in these things? I think its a relatively good decision to have any one of those characters playable. Especially the most recent Robin, being the psychopath that he is. Do people really hate the Boy Wonder that much?

This is the only major thing I wanted added (co-op) for that exact reason. Synchronized or elaborate take-downs in predator rooms/challenges.

I'm betting on a co-op mode with Batmnan and Catwoman (those names sound beyond ridiculous when you think about them), maybe in the style of the challenge maps of the first game.

I can't really see them attempting any sort of vs. mode.

Normally I'd say "OH GOD NO!", but Rocksteady have proven with the first game that they won't bite off more than they can chew.

Cat and flying rodent I'd be more inclined to say.

I dunno, so many sequels are shattered by "multiplayer".

Yes people really do think that Robin is cack, most people only know him from the batman and robin film (rubbish) or the original series (also rubbish)

Also I live pretty much opposite the Rocksteady Offices in Kentish Town in London, I see the guys who work there all the time in my local and one of them comes to my kickboxing class. bit weird but nice guys though

Please, please, please, just don't shoe-horn it in. Not every game needs multipalyer. Take a leaf out of Bioshock Infinite's book, and just don't include multiplayer unless it makes sense.

Oi, it wasn't that bad! At least there was a co-op mode. Although I will agree that it was a little hammy.

I wouldnt mind some co-op action - That would be epic - Going at it in the shadows with two people

Yes, or do you forget the fact that Jason Todd was killed because more people called in to have him killed than save him.
He was only one of the Robins, though, and by far the least popular. Dick Grayson has remained a consistently popular character, and Tim Drake was a hit too. Though I did hear he went all emo and started calling himself Red Robin lately. Sigh.

OT: This makes me sad face. Why are people always so determined to fuck with a winning formula?

I hope that co-op is a separate game mode, and that it doesn't mess up the main story play a la Resident Evil 5
