The 4th Annual The Escapist Film Festival Is Now Live

The Escapist Film Festival is a talent search where the world's best videos compete for an exclusive paid contract with The Escapist. Many will enter, all will be shown, but only one can win. Who will grab the spotlight this year?

We work hard each week to produce award winning video content that game enthusiasts find entertaining, humorous and insightful. We also know some of the best producers of web video have yet to be discovered. If you're one of these undiscovered talents, we'd like to see your videos and have them become a regular feature on The Escapist.

Submit your video and it will become part of a video gallery on The Escapist. If your video has what it takes to be the best, your series will be added to our awesome weekly video line-up viewed by millions around the world. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get paid to do what you love.

To view all of the rules and deadlines, please click here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/content/4thAnnualFilmFestival]. All submissions will be open through October 29th, 2010 at 11:59PM EST, so get those cameras rolling!

Good luck!

Oh gosh it's starting already?!! It's okay... I can get a 5 minute Cartoon in before October 29th... Curious though: Do we have to sign a waiver? If so, where's the link?

Hopefully it will be better than last year and will yield something almost as awesome as Unskippable (it can't be too funny remember).

I'm still depressed that the Pokemon guys didn't get the deal last year.
I voted for that thing every day I could too and still bumms me out that it lost. Finger's crossed we'll get the next Unskippable or Doomsday Arcade this year. :D

Awesome :D I've been waiting for this.

Question: If we use videogame sprites from a Nes game or whatever then is that considered copyright? I notice a lot of it being used in other web videos.

I know... it was the only one I really liked :/

I'd like something more dramatic like that with occasional funny bits, we need more variety

Hey! Guys that made that recent Pokemon movie trailer! Hit this shit up!

Looking forward to another year of moderate excellence and overwhelming mediocrity.

By submitting your video you are already agreeing to the terms of the event.

It's a grey area. If you use the exact characters from the game, Nintendo (or any other company) can yank it. If they are a "likeness" of NES characters, you should be clear. We of course will have to see after you submit it of course.

Dear Escapist,

I think it's possibly clear to some that I'm still a little... bitter about the outcome of last years festival... What with the viewer's choice award amounting to roughly diddly-squat.

I need to know something.

If the majority of Escapees vote for a certain entry as their favourite, is that video going to win this year? Y'know as logic would dictate, or should I just not bother voting this time?

I'd like to avoid getting angry again when the video most of us spend days voting for wins 'second place at best' like last year...

With hope,

-Archemetis.

God dammit... I suppose I'll have to wait until next year to prepare my entry. It's too early in the year for me to even start it now. I don't even have the script prepared... Ah well. I'll win next year, I'm sure of it.

I would totally do this, I think I'm pretty funny as do other people.
I just don't have the resources or friends to do it with :(

No. The choice for the overall winner and who will get the contract is the choice of The Escapist team alone. Viewer's Choice is something fun to do and gives bragging rights to the winner. Does that mean we won't ever work with them? Who knows, the sky is the limit and there are a lot of great directors out there.

I think last year it wasn't even in the top 4 for the grand prize.

You're right, I think I have the creativity to do something interesting, but having no friends readily available to help with such a task is a downer.

Sure, we could probably think something up ourselves, but what fun would that be.

On a similar point, has anyone here tried making a video with fellow Escapists? That would be pretty cool.

Fair does, as long as I know ahead of time.

Personally I still don't see how the one that the audience voted for didn't qualify as a winner... But maybe there's something I'm not getting about all this.

Thanks for the response.

It's why I said 'second place at best'... Not just 'second place.'
