Holy crud, already? It's been a year since the last one? Time sure is going by fast.

I don't think I'll be entering this year, I'm afraid. I've had absolutely no practice with animation since last year's entry, and even though I've got some ideas floating around in my head, I don't have the skill to back it up.

Good grief, already. I've got a script ready but it'll be a lot of work to have ready for Oct 29. (Good practice though if it somehow, though some miracle, is selected, I suppose). I have access to everything except a composer. Anyone here a decent composer. Or know a decent composer. The beauty of that job is that it doesn't require you to be in the same country.

I like your contest, and will raise you one super-epic video! Except, I tried submitting said video and I got a 404 error, any help?

Nevermind, I figured out the problem and was able to properly submit my video (I hope you guys only get the one, correct/last submission). I had planned this series a while ago, and actually made it specifically for The Escapist. As an editor's note though, I should mention that the original cut is 8 minutes (not 5, but we cut the credits, CG intro and lines we thought the episode could do without or ones that didn't assist the story (put without do screw up pacing)). But, if you guys would like to see the 8 minute cut, let me know!

Begun working on my cartoon today, and man, I think I could honestly do a weekly-biweekly cartoon in flash now what with the way I am using it. Curious question: Are we allowed to talk about our ideas? Not as specific as possible, but kind of like vague? We were allowed to do that last year.

They have in years past and once it's submitted it belongs to the escapist anyway, so...why not? Here are my vague clues: Action. Drama. Sci-fi. Nerdcore. Explosions. Teleportation. Vis. Comic. The Lost Room. Xiaolin Showdown. Generally original. Epic. Writer/Director/Editor/Special FX Artist that is not normally this conceded.

So reading through the Terms & Conditions, I assume that entrants retain Intellectual Property rights this time around as opposed to last year?

Sure, you can chat about your ideas. Just can't post the video you a submitting anywhere.

New Question: I had attempted submitting several times and the site gave me several 404 error not found and then "Connection was reset" problems, but eventually loaded and went to the main page. Did you guys get it?

We were doing some maintenance on the servers yesterday evening, which may have affected the upload. Give it another try over the weekend, and I'll check on Monday to see if it made it.

I have registered! (I'm just glad this name hasn't been taken. I'd have been very sad.)

I have a specific question about the consent form that I didn't see answered here. I'm something of a one-man operation, but if I were to have someone else get involved and had them sign the form, could I (the sole producer) also act as the witness, or would I need a third person to act as the witness?

I've made a few films and stuff, and getting me and one other person together at the same time is seldom a problem, but getting three people together can be a challenge sometimes.

Come on Doomsday Arcade 2!

I'm just saying is all.....
Doomsday Arcade 2 would be epic win, but I am not sure the Escapists want's to do a DA 2 because they had a DA 1. (I have an Internet Friend who's doing something similar, a show about guys who fight Video Game monsters that get into the real world)

I myself don't want to spoil my own show, but I'll tell you guys the premise: Internet Culture meets Team Fortress 2.

Are we allowed to use excerpts from films or gameplay footage? Naturally, I'd be sure to credit them to their respective owners, but I worry I still might be breaching copyright laws.

Five minutes huh? That's not very long. I suppose it's because someone has to actually watch all of the entries, but damn.

Is there a buffer zone before a video is long enough to be disqualified? 'Cause I'm running awfully close to the limit right now, and it would greatly ease my mind to know that if it comes out to 5:03 I won't have to go back and re-record.

As far as I know, we offered them a contract and the show was in production, but they canceled on us because it was too much work to make it a regular show. Sometimes that's how it ends up.

Even though there's only one winner declared, we've offered to publish multiple series every year. I doubt that'll change, if there's something interesting enough.

How do you feel about 2-3 entries for one person? I've had a few ideas, but I end up over analyzing and thinking its a clone of something here.
I don't think there are any specific rules against it, but I can tell you from experience that you're far better off picking the one idea you think is best and focusing all your effort into it. You'll be competing against what other people think is their best work, so you should make sure that you're submitting that as well.
Well I guess I should edit it to "Didn't take the deal."

It would have been interesting to see how they handled showing the Pokemon themselves, although part of me expected that to not happen.

Just to let you know Percutio, it was a lot of work in and of the fact that our producer for Pocket Monsters left us in the dark for about 6 months on release dates, budget and other such information that was necessary for us to continue the filming. We submitted a 20 minute second episode after signing the contract and I believe it took a good month and a half before any response was made. I tried e-mailing and calling several times to ensure WE STILL HAD A SERIES while the filming for Episode 2 and 3 took place, and for 6 months the budget money came from....my pocket.

So, we did in fact cancel because it was too much work.....and that is in fact how it ended up.

Fortunately, we've decided to make the series on our own....without a Producer....or a contract....

But on another note...I'm excited to vote for another viewer's choice!...So they can have "bragging rights"

Oh yeah...

--"It would have been interesting to see how they handled showing the Pokemon themselves, although part of me expected that to not happen."--

In episode 2 we revealed a Bulbasaur, a Weedle, a Charmander, and several Beedrill....and they were badass.
