Parasite Eve Now On PSN

Thirteen years later, Square-Enix is bringing back a classic to scare you in all-new ways.

Back in August, <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/103015-Parasite-Eve-Dual-Pack-Could-Horrify-PSN>there was speculation that the original Parasite Eve games would be hitting the PlayStation Network. Now, to promote the release of The 3rd Birthday in Western markets, Square-Enix has put one of the original titles on the PSN and plans to eventually release the other.

The 3rd Birthday is set to be released for the PSP at the end of the month, so Parasite Eve has been released on the PSN for both the PS3 and PSP. Square-Enix, meanwhile, announced that plans to put Parasite Eve II on the PSN at "a later date."

The first Parasite Eve was released for the first PlayStation console back in 1998. The game followed Aya Brea, a NYC police officer who discovers a type of mitochondria called "EVE" that begins waging war against humanity over a six-day period. If that sounds like a bizarre plot, it only gets stranger, but a bunch of my friends were all in love with the game back in high school.

Parasite Eve is selling on the PSN for $9.99 $5.99.

I was a little kid when this game first came out. Probably about 9 or 10 years old. I bought it only because it said it was by the same people who made FF7. Was a big FF7 fanboy.

But after a couple of horrific cut scenes my terrified little hands pulled the game out while my little sister, who often watched me play video games, cried in fear. I didn't touch it again for years.

.... But when I did eventually pick it back up, years later, it became one of my favorite games.

I'd happily play it again but... some of those scenes are still a bit creepy to me...

Hmmm... I've heard nothing but great things about this game, but couldn't really find it anywhere. Now I might have to give it a shot. Off to buy more PSN cards!

I loved this game. Especially being able to customize your weapons. Now to decide wether or not I'd ever play it again. Hmmm.... Might have to pick up 'just in case.'

I rmeember playing this when I was 8 (I didnt have a PS1 till I was 7). I couldnt sleep for weeks, (especially after the rat scene, I was almost scared to pick it back up) but it was well worth it, and sits on my list as one of the best games for the PS1. Well, I already have backwards compatibility on my PS3, and my copy of the game.

... but I may have ot buy it again, so I can give my old copy to a new home (i.e. resale through gamestop).

Innnnnnnnnnteresting. 9.99? Kind of disappointed since Rey Gutierrez said that it'd be 5.99 in response to a comment on the blog when this was announced earlier this week. I'm not saying the game isn't worth ten dollars, but so much of my childhood nostalgia has been absolutely buried recently by discovering the games I loved just don't hold up to my standards these days means I'm going to hold off for a while, probably until they release 2 as well.

I do think Parasite Eve was a fantastic game, despite its flaws. It was just such a drastic departure from every other RPG we'd encountered up to that point.

Hmmmm, this and Vagrant Story are now on PSN? Seems too good to be true, all I'd need now is Panzer Dragoon Saga to be released on PSN and I'll have a very happy year

PE > FF7

that is all
As someone who discovered and fell in love with Final Fantasy thanks to Final Fantasy 7, I agree.

And picky point here, but Eve is the villain, not a type of mitochondria. The "science" behind it is based upon the fact our mitochondrian cells have DNA unique to themselves, and not ours. What occurs is this DNA awakens and, like a parasite, infects and takes over the cells, mutating and adapting the host body as it sees fit. Anyone can be subject to this, besides Aya, which is explained later in the plot. Its also one of the main reasons ONLY Aya is capable of really combating Eve.
and if you've never played it before, its creepy even now to watch the transformation scenes, never mind the opening cut scene, that's nightmare fuel

FInally, I was getting tired of all that speculation.

This makes me very happy. I loved Parasite Eve when it came out, even though it completely weirded me out a little when I played it, I was like 12 when I first played it.

Any idea if it's also in the EU or will be at some point?
From what I've read from the EU PSN blog, they've aknowledged people's wishes for bringing PS1 games to EU PSN that were never released in PAL territories back in the day, but that's pretty much it for now. I wouldn't keep my hopes up, PSN store here in EU kinda sucks as you've probably noticed. We might get PE2 at some point, though.

Speaking in biological terms, how can a mitochondria be anything but a mitochondria?

... regardless, ive never played it, but it sounds awsome!
