Don't ask me. I've long switched off from giving a shit what Glenn Greenwald thinks. I think a load of stuff's gone to his head a bit. Or maybe he was always like that, it's just we had less exposure to realise.
For the record, this is the first time I've ever heard of the guy.

I dunno how much this has to do with covid being blamed on China versus this guy having some very weird sex complexes like the gay Isis guy who shot up a gay bar that he had apparently frequented. Maybe he was just too hooked on spa handjobs and couldn't quit them any other way.

But yeah outside of this particular incident you definitely have a rise in crimes against random asians, and it's not just in the US, this very funny youtuber I watch who does this overly exaggerated asian food critic character was randomly suckerpunched in England some months ago. He's called Nigel Ng, top level comedy. Thankfully he wasn't too badly injured.
It wasn't just the covid. There was the economy war with China nourishing the brainworns inside the bigots' heads beforehand.

Well that and the much larger and longer standing prejudice against sex workers as being less than human, which spans pretty much every culture and society.

I personally loved how I heard someone refer to him as "deeply religious" and so his idea was to kill the source of his sin and desire. Which I find funny, in that they even bothered to try and use the fact that he believes in invisible shit as a virtue, but then tried to imply that being religious, means his actions as a killer are somehow contrary to that religious state. Sorry but have you fucking SEEN the world we live in? Religious shitbags justify killing through faith all the time. Which, apparently is what this guy is at least trying to do, based on that statement.

Well doesn't that make it religious terrorism?
If this guy were a devout muslim that would be the interpretation, so why isn't it being made in this case?

Fuck if I know, I mean they've already tried to couch his actions in sympathetic language, straight from the fucking cops, so it's anyone's guess as to why they aren't point that part out. I'm being somewhat sarcastic, as it's pretty fucking clear why they aren't pointing out that he's claiming he killed them to try and purge his temptation to sin.

Is Pornhub not a thing in the States?
It is, but the incel culture has been cultivating a narrative about fetishization of asian women and by a lesser extent anime and Japanese media. Though they just memory holed a bunch of vintage Japanese games and content when the Pornhubpocalypse happened

I'd have thought incels would be into stereotypes of Asian women: submissive, obedient, etc.

You know, I've been seeing this point come up a lot in these last few days and I think there's a distinction to be made here.

So, you know how people want to deflect criticisms about Palestine by calling people who criticize Israel anti-semetic, and how people should be able to criticize the right wing government of Israel without being seen as hating Jews? Well, I don't think it's a stretch to say you can criticize China for its economic practices or treatment of uigurs or potentially unleashing the virus and so on without hating asian folks.

I think all those people who are pro-Palestine are now taking the reverse stance in a very similar situation and it isn't internally consistent.

Oh man, I didn't know incels made all this anime that sexualises asian women. I'd have SWORN it was the Japanese people themselves depicting their own race in such a fashion.

The more you know!

(also, Japan is our ally against China, a lot of enmity between us and them is because China is encroaching on the east asia sea which is Japanese waters that China is trying to claim and the US has navy there to protect Japan which increases frictions, this has been going on for a bunch of years now, but never mind all this logic, titties bad, baaaad!)

I think you'll find that the Japanese and Chinese enmity goes back a little further than the Chinese testing out the limits of naval borders. Not that they aren't being cheeky dickwaffles about it, but there is some very long standing bad blood between the two countries.

Oh yeah I didn't say that's all there was. That example was made to show the position the US has with regards to Japan and China in the context of the quoted post, and how we're actually allied with, as opposed to hating, the people who depict Asian women in the way anime does, and both groups are against China, while having one of them also be Asian, which shows that being anti-china isn't the same as being anti-asian. It's not as simple as there being a blanket attitude towards all asians, and on the matter of Japan they're actually our biggest ally in the area, followed by south Korea.

Also the reason why in recent years there's more tension between US and China is because of those acts that they take in those waters, more so than any other issue anyhow, since that situation actually involves navy dick measuring contests and not just funny tweets.

I have the general opinion that virtually anyone from Indonesia to North Korea and Tibet to Japan who has the idea that they aren't to some degree subordinate to the Chinese emperor premier isn't truly friendly with China. Much like since the USSR broke up, it's been clear that Russia doesn't accept that many of the other ex-SSRs have full sovereignty and self-determination, as the USSR had done previously after the Russian Empire's collapse.

Incels in one country make deplorable content enjoyed by Incels in another country 🤷‍♂️
It's not racist though if they made it. It's not fetishizing Asian women in particular. It's just general default women cause Japan is ethnocentric. People's outsider perspectives are putting that aspect into the equation out of their own minds.

Also Japan is really liberal with sex so it's nothing to do with incels, there's millions of people who work in these industries. You can just find random titty books in a magazine stand just hanging out there, they're just open about this stuff and don't treat fictional sexuality as something only incels enjoy.

They're really liberal about the commercialized concept of sex, sure. Japan will sell you anything. But they're still a really repressed, sexist culture that treats women as magazine covers and wives as broodmares.
If you want a taste of their 'liberal' idea of sex try being gay or a lesbian and see how far you get in society. Most companies won't hire LGBTQXYZ+ people, and those that do love to follow Confucian on marriage that only married men with children succeed in society, so only those type of men get promotions.

I think what you see as sexist is coming from a westerner perspective and a westerner ideal of femininity. Japan operates under the yamato nadeshiko ideal which is more attractive to them.

But yeah either way the point isn't about it being sexist or not, I was just responding to the point about it being made for/by incels. No, it's for normal people, they all enjoy this stuff and it's fine.

And Japan sees gay stuff as a sexual fetish and not as an "identity", it's like something similar to being into feet or what have you, not something to really bring up in polite conversation. And if someone tries to make "being into feet" their identity, well, naturally they'd be seen as a pervert who gets off on broadcasting their foot fetish to others. Fundamentally people don't care what you do in your private life, just don't bother them with it.

Japan is a place where one of their top universities systematically chopped a third off the score of female entrants to their medical school, because they didn't want to waste their precious medical degrees on people who would have babies and leave the profession. They started this in 2006, and only stopped when caught a few years back. We can learn two things from this. Firstly that a medical school would even do this without the people running it questioning it. Secondly, the assumption women should have babies and stop working, which says a lot about attitudes to women in employment and expectations of them in society.

If this is the "yamato nadeshiko ideal", then the yamato nadeshiko ideal is sexist.

You may as well sit there and argue the treatment of women in Saudi Arabia isn't sexist, it's just a different cultural vision. See how seriously that gets taken.
