True story: When I was little, I wanted to be a detective more than anything. I had my own little fingerprint kit and everything, and thought for sure that I was on a path to be a mighty mystery solver like Sherlock Holmes. Turns out that being a detective isn't quite so glamorous when you don't have an arch enemy planning overly complex heists and schemes, so I learned to content myself with living vicariously through fictional sleuths like the ones featured in today's quiz.

We've pulled questions from the realms of film, comics, games and novels. As always, you can take as long as you like to finish the quiz, and can retake it if you haven't quite achieved that 100%, but keep in mind that your cumulative time will impact your position on our leaderboards.

I scored 100% on my first try, but I must say that the Batman question is confusing since in the early comics his craft might look like one of two of the answers.

You feel old? I first read about Sherlock Holmes' brother in an Infocom game [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sherlock:_The_Riddle_of_the_Crown_Jewels] I played before you were born. *Waves cane.*

And now we just need someone to say they read The Murders in the Rue Morgue when it first came out. And then we can throw rocks at him.

Luckily on try #2 I got 90% (stupid batman vehicle question...) and finally 100% putting me at 8th rank. Not too bad I guess.

Although, that could be nit-picking on his part since Batman ain't a detective either, he is Bruce Wayne, a wealthy businessman.
So that should allow Tintin to enter this quiz too..

That's a gyrocopter. A sort of missing link between the regular airplane and the helicopter.
