Green Lantern Spawns Animated Series

So here's the trailer for Green Lantern: The Animated Series. Seriously, who didn't see this one coming?

With the recent (<a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/escape-to-the-movies/3557-Green-Lantern>terrible beyond words) Green Lantern film, there have been a slew of tie-ins and merchandise announced. However, Cartoon Network has revealed that it'll have what is probably going to be the longest-lasting associated property: A Green Lanter animated series.

The trailer doesn't reveal much, other than the show will star Hal Jordan and feature a bunch of his fellow Corps members as they fight the good fight. There's <a href=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kilowog>Kilowog, and <a href=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salaak>Salaak, and a bunch of Guardians floating around looking authoritative. But other than that, there's really not much else that's obvious about the series, other than Hal will fly a spaceship (which seems a bit superfluous seeing as how he's got a ring that negates the need for spaceships).

OK, I'm sure little kids won't mind Green Lantern: The Animated Series. Heck, they'll probably even enjoy it. The problem with this is that, until now, the DC animated series on Cartoon Network have usually been pretty appealing for both children and adults (admittedly, <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Batman-Brave-Bold-Season-Part/dp/B003M8NGLC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1308876358&sr=8-1>Batman: The Brave and the Bold seems less parent-oriented), and it doesn't look like this new series will have any real appeal for anyone past the age of ten or so when it appeals sometime later this year.

If it's the usual cast of creators who work on DC Universe series, it probably won't be that bad... best to wait and see.

Anyone else miss hand-drawn animated shows? I mean, I enjoy CG as much as the next guy, but...I dunno, I guess it's just nostalgia taking me over.

The good: DC comics may not translate well into live action shows but the animation department is always on the ball.

The Bad: It looks like the animation team is the same one doing Clone Wars.

I'm still going to be watching this though. Admittedly, I need the new Green Lantern animated movie. I have the original and thought it was pretty sweet.

Headline string contains typo I believe- "So here's the trailer for Green Lanter: The Animated Series. Seriously, who didn't see this one coming?"

Ugh. They had me until the Clone Wars CG style. I'd almost think there was an active effort on someone's part to sabatouge GL at this point.

Ugh... terrible CG graphics. I think something in the vein of the last Fantastic Four animated series would have been more appropriate. I'll check it out, but I'm going in with reasonably low expectations.

how come is it that when a cartoon version movie or a short animation of a certain DC superhero is done splendidly but when it's done in live action, you wouldn't even spit in the same direction. And now this CG down graded green lantern animation is like sticking a stake in a bullet worn ragged body?

No i feel the same way, i was hoping that this series would be traditionally animated but they went for the "future is here" CG route which i dislike in any Marvel or DC show.

1. CG, :'(

2. Who else feels like GL is gunning for wonder woman's spot as the #3 hero in the DCU?

I personally liked the Green Lantern movie...

OT: Yeah, the CG does look pretty bad. Of course I don't really watch Cartoon Network anymore, so this isn't a problem for me.

How can you guys compare this CG to The Clone Wars? Have guys ever watched an episode of it? Not even the later episodes, but the early ones. Even those are 100 times better than this. But, Bruce Timm is involved so I'll still watch it.

Also, regarding Brave and the Bold, it's actually pretty "parent-oriented". Chill of the Night could pass for a Batman: TAS episode, then there's the innuendo, deaths, and nerd references. It's a pretty good show, watch any Bat-Mite episode and you will fall in love.
