Oops! The Old Republic Info Leaked By Careless Retailer

A Polish website listed -then pulled- some information and box art about The Old Republic that it probably shouldn't have.

Fans of Star Wars: The Old Republic are chomping at the bit, as there's going to be some new announcements about the game this week at Comic-Con in San Diego. However, it looks like a European retailer has accidentally let at least one cat out of the bag by listing (and the quickly yanking) box art and pre-order information for the game.

Poland-based Empik.com released the info on its site earlier today, including a comment about how pre-ordering the game would give players extra content including a "colour stone to change your weapon effect."

Unsurprisingly, the page has been taken down since it was first posted, but enough people managed to snag screenshots that it's now a matter of public record.

It'll be interesting to see whether or not this information is confirmed later this week at Comic-Con. That said, the box art certainly looks legitimate, doesn't it?

If it was leaked by Empik than it's quite legit.

They are quite a massive company and it's doubtfull they would release such thing only for the quick shock value.

This is just the new form of advertising.

'Leak' an item, enjoy the free publicity that every games new related website will now give you, rinse and repeat for your next major title but ensure a different retailer 'leaks' it to not provoke too much suspicion.

It happens too often to be anything else.

Looks quite nice, considering the terrible one for ME2.

Probably just the box-art for it before it gets released.

fake. apart from the fact that there's a guy in the centre of the box art that they kinda killed off in the first cinematic trailer they released, all every single bit of it is cut from cinematic trailers. malgus, the dude in front and the fighters are from 'deceived', satele and the trooper are from 'hope' and the droid is from 'return'. It's a nice job though.

Yeah. Sorry for the whole "Invading you guys" thing. We cool?

OT: Mmmmm, I'm looking forward to seeing if this is real or not. Not that I care, but that my friend does. Me? I'm done with MMORPGs

Hmm... Might be fake but Empik is known for screwing up badly. A marketing stunt or Empik screwing up once again? I would go with Empik screwing up as its to obscure of a place for a marketing stunt.

So, no release date, but the incredibly obvious information that preordering yields a cosmetic bonus item? Not really much of a scoop. Although the box art is nice, I just wish it was a little bigger. Can't see much detail.

Well either or.. I wish they would just put out a release date. Its getting tiring watching fanboys salivating and speculating over the release date with conspiracy theories that make the Moonwalk look tame by comparison.

I am sort of surprised, because at least to me, it does nto seem likely that they would release a game with only 4 months advance notice to allow for preorders, Retailer advertising campaigns, proper press hype period with advance reviews in major magazines, etc. Typically you always see at least 6 months to a year advance notice if not more. If it really is a november release were looking at 4 months. That just really does not seem very sound practice to go against a wealth of precedent.

Oh well, The sooner the better I guess..... Wait have they even announced the subscription model yet?!?!

Erm, just out of interest... why would you include Pre-Order adverts on the bloody box the game comes in? I know EA are really trying to get the whole Day 1 DLC thing to take off, but surely including promotions for pre-ordering the game before it comes out is counter-intuitive once the game comes out! That's like buying a movie ticket to see the new Harry Potter flick, and having an advert on said ticket saying "pre-book your ticket before July 15th and nab a free tub of popcorn."

I dunno. Maybe I'm overthinking things...
This is something that Gamestop has started doing. They get cases to put on their shelves that look like the game, but the cover has all kinds of info about pre-ordering. So, this more than likely isn't the actual game box, but more of an advertising box.

Even so, pre-orders are usually announced accompanying or after a piece of information has been released. Just a tiny bit of information usually comes before the announcement of pre-order bonuses...

THAT BEING THE RELEASE DATE![/excited]

If it's not announced at Comic-con, someone should be shot...

Love the box art, very Star Wars!
Anyway, while I hate spoilers in any way, even this kind, I don't think it's much of a deal. The real new at the con will be the release date!
