Borderlands 2 Officially Confirmed

It turns out those rumors about Borderlands 2 weren't just rumors after all.

Gearbox has officially confirmed the sequel to 2009's shooter cum gun-statistic-spreadsheet simulator, Borderlands. Yesterday, Gearbox's head honcho Randy Pitchford responded to gossip and rumors about a potential Borderlands 2, stating that: "We've only announced what we've announced. If we haven't announced it, it doesn't exist." [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/112036-Gearbox-Unofficially-Confirms-Borderland-Sequel] Turns out that's not entirely true, Borderlands 2 does exist, and it could be arriving on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC later next year. The title is down for release sometime during publisher 2K Games' 2013 fiscal year, which actually starts in April 2012.

According to a press release, Borderlands 2 will retain the distinctive cel-shaded look of its predecessor and though the story is still set on Pandora, players will get to explore unvisited regions of the planet, hopefully ones that aren't deserts. Players can also expect "several" new playable characters with a whole bunch of new skills and, rather obviously, a whole mess of randomly generated guns to choose from. Gearbox has also promised improvements to the series' story presentation and mission structure.

We'll get a closer look at Borderlands 2 and its various improvements later this month when Gearbox puts it on display at Gamescom 2011 and PAX Prime.

Oh man, that's the best news I've heard since finding out a memory wipe could forever erase Duke Nukem Forever from my mind. Can't wait to have more adventures with Mordecai!

Now that's what I wanted to hear! Couldn't stand the first game due to awful story presentation and I felt like it had tons of potential to be amazing. Hope they improve the feel of guns as well, they never felt really exciting to me.

Borderlands was great. I don't have anything against this because story was not the main focus of the last game at all. Still, more story would be better in the next one. New characters in all. Also, we probably wont be seeing this for some time. The last game was announced for years before it was released.

Claptrap for president.

EDIT: Something just occurred to me. Borderlands introduced me to cage the elephant. FUCK YEAH. DEFINITE PURCHASE.

Dear Gearbox,

Please include a cameo from Red Steel 2?s swordsman. It would be fitting.

Alos, more cool songs. And better driving.

Awesome! Loved Borderlands, and the stuff about improved story presentation and mission structure is exactly what I wanted to hear for a sequal. Officially added to the quickly growing list of games I need to keep tabs on.

Awww, give the guns some credit... Some of the shotguns. Holy crap! It shoots rockets!

No, it's not the guns themselves, they're awesome. They just feel... off. Maybe it's the sound, I don't know, I can't quite put a finger on what it is, but you know how the one thing everyone agrees on about CoD is the fact the guns feel just right? That's exactly what's missing here for me.

YES!!!

I loved Borderlands and I'm excited that they are actually going to fix the story in this one, towards the end it got really weird and the last boss was ridiculous.

Dont get your hopes up too high, remember it will be a sequal, and there are not many good sequals out there...

Totally. The end was a huge letdown. Even the loot wasn't any good until the second runthrough! But any game that lets me tool around with a sniper rifle and a pet hawk with ability to earn experience and upgrades with buddies or alone is an instant must-list for me.

Eh, I disagree almost entirely on CoD about the feel of the guns. The sounds are too tinny, the recoil for nearly all guns is too small and when they hit they don't seem to have an effective impact. At least for me anyway.

Why Pandora?

Why not create your own character....as the character design had no backstory?

Will there be weapon mods?

Why Pandora!?

Will there other colors then brown?

Will there be MOAR enemies then ~5-25 w/ recolor?

Will there be weapon lockouts so the filthy dont suck up a gun crate?

Decent End boss?

Will it reference DNF being terrible?

Better cars?

...if they don't include some sort of character export/carry-over I might have to pass on this one. Too many hours spent already X(

Yeah, after the boss battle I was kinda pissed at the lack of good loot, and the second playthrough did make up for it. I'm such a shameless loot whore, but I did get the best SMG from that playthrough though, perfect for Lilith.

I'm playing around with the idea of playing as Mordecai though, but I like my siren since I can run around while being invisible, and either setting people on fire or electrocuting them. Makes me want to replay the game again now...

Yeah I know what you mean actually, I was mostly using CoD as it's a widely known example (personally prefer the feel of some Battlefield guns). But I dunno, when I jump into that game (not a fan of multiplayer, talking singleplayer here), I don't feel bored holding a weapon. I sadly am in Borderlands and again, I can't quite put my finger on why.
