Does this mean the PSP is pirated 99.999% of the time in the US since its considered a failure (which it is not) while the DS is a massive success.

Obviously the "stats" are wrong but I guess scaring developers is their job.
Who considered the PSP a failure?

Retarded false statistics aside, there's no actual indication as to what "Pirated" software is being used.

If the R4 simply allows anything, who's to say many of the games being played aren't non-retail 3rd party apps like the web and Newgrounds are overflowing with? Or we'll assume since he says piracy specifically, lets assume it's retail titles... Well how many of those titles aren't available for sale anymore? I can't walk into BestBuy and buy Advance Wars: Dual Strike, it's discontinued. If I could put an R4 in my DS and play a copy downloaded off the net, I wouldn't consider it full piracy (nor detrimental piracy) because the company is refusing to sell the game. For free, a pirate copy, or for $40 a legit copy, I always buy legit. I'm not big on software piracy. But when the company won't sell to me, I'm not going to let that get in the way of being able to play.

Oh, and how much of this "pirate" software are old NES/SNES/Etc rom ports? You can't truly claim piracy on something that not only can't be purchased anymore, but the entire system and all support for it have long since been dead too.
Yeah I spent the entire winter period playing Wizards and Warriors 1.

Trust me if I COULD BUY IT I WOULD BUY IT :). From nintendo that is, none of you hokey second rate salepeople who might give me a cartridge I have to blow more than *insert explicit reference here*.

No, no, no. You are all reading it wrong.

In America it's thought 90 percent of Nintendo DS users are playing pirated games because of R4s.
He is NOT saying 90% of people play pirated games. He is saying 90% of people who play pirated games, use the R4 system. Which is a much more believable statistic.
Complete this sentence "As opposed to the 10 percent who..."
It really makes the most sense if it ends with "do not play pirated games."

Even so, he sure didn't make it clear, I know I read it as '90% of all DS stuff pirated, buy an R4 for free games! Honestly, if you haven't heard of it, they're great, go get one and you can pirate all DS games!'. Ahem, I mean, personally, I wouldn't have namechecked the R4, and it did sound to me like he was saying 90% of all DS stuff is pirated.

Not 'out of the pirated stuff, 90% uses a R4'.

4 out of 3 stat crunchers fail at math.
Im switching to a supercard, sdhc support FTW!
And using my ds as a 18hr mp3 player/Palm pilot/video player/E-book/Chatroom is AWESOME. AND LEGAL.

Oh, well, if 90% or DS owners are doing it, I guess I should too. I mean, isn't that what they want me to do? They always use ads mentioning how popular a game is, so I guess this is the same thing. Thanks ELSPA... You've helped convince a previously straight edge(OH NOES! HERE COMES THE LAW SUIT!) gamer become a pirate. YARRGH!

On a more serious note... They probably just did a pole around their offices. Seems about right to me. They clearly aren't honest, so it's not a leap to consider.

While there is no doubt there is some piracy, the numbers are not nearly that high and are inflated to create a greater sense of urgency and drama. The world is going to end tomorrow if we don't do something today. That sort of thing.

Typical strategy, somehow they want to justify their practices of spying on people (spying on everyone, not just people that pirate games) and persecuting individuals, fining them hundreds of thousands of dollars for damages for things like downloading 3 games or 2 music albums, and forcing ISPs to deliver user logs and cut "suspicious" users from the internet, among other things.

The news is about a European agency being concerned about piracy in the US. Not suspicious at all, eh? France already has laws that allow them to spy on people using the internet, my country too, and these associations are pressuring other governments to implement them, despite them breaking European conventions on privacy and human rights. They don't care.

Its kind of an old thread and old news, but i had to say whats on my chest. Not many people seem to realize what is going on behind all the piracy talk. It's not as black and white as they want everyone to believe.

This is like the time I learned on the news 25% of woman in America have been raped! The number is way to high and I don't believe it.

No... No no no. LIES! I do know about the nice little blank cartridges you can get, and pile up with roms. But I've never even heard of these chips, and 90% is unbelievable. Besides, how would they get these figures without having knowledge of a lot of people illegally using these chips, in which case they could just tell them to stop?

90% is a load of shit, I'd say about 8% tops, it's not hard to get an R4 and get it to work, but it's not child's play either.
