A big problem.

While I was at school, my parents found some incriminating evidence on my video player.
See, I haven't told them I'm gay (or my other interests), and the items my player contained had some... unsavory images, most of them furry art. Now I'm wondering what to do, as my father sounds literally weak from the discovery. Anyone have any tips?

Guess that's what you get for leaving your player somewhere visible with "strange" porn on it. Unless you can claim your friends put it there to mock you I don't have any ideas.

I'm pretty sure that everyone has one. Ok, well like 90% of the 13 year old population when I was that age did.

Well, you have two options. First is deny everything, say something like it's just a prank by your friends (believable if you can pull it off.)

But if you feel like these parts of your personality will bring conflicts in the future though, it may be best to get them out there. Totally your call, but it's an option. Depends on how your parents react though. I mean, if they're appalled, then it may be best to have it out there later (preferably after you're outta school.)

I've decided that at the very least, I'm not going to lie to my parents. They're the type who are (gasp!) not idiots, and will sniff me out like a bloodhound.

No problem. Tell them what you have learned from the virus is that it tries to fill your storage device up with obsene media. Come up with a clever name. Spamworm or something. Make a wiki page for it. Show them the wiki page.

I lied when my dad found my stash of gay porn at 13. One of the downsides of having awesome home built computers. :/ Anyway, he never brought it up again until after I came out. After the initial shock and the ease of buying into the lie he realized I was just looking for a way out and needed time.

As someone who has lied about this sort of stuff in the past - both successfully and unsuccessfully - I suggest telling the truth. They'll know. If not now, then soon. They always find out.

Do you think your parents are that stupid that they'll believe "it was a virus" or "someone else must have put it there?" It might fly for a while, but it'll come out eventually. You will come out eventually.

It's better to admit it sooner or later. They'll at least appreciate your honesty - better than being a deviant AND a liar.

See, what I do, is color over all my stuff on MS paint, so it looks totally innocent, like I'm practicing drawing with paint or something.

When I need it, I erase the scribbles, and then undo the erasing when I'm done.
