I gotta schedule my exam. Thankfully I got a new neighbor and he has several certifications including A+. I loved a prepatory class I took where I actually saw a computer start on fire because someone put the RAM in improperly.
How is that even possible since the dimm slots are keyed. That reaches a new level of sadness.

for those of you that don't know A+ is a hardware certification for people who have little to no experience plugging things in.

I personaly never took the course because I felt it was a waste of 400 dollars.
A friend recently took it and the most complex thing they did was make thier own ethernet cables.

That being said, if you have half a brain on you, you'll do fine.
What we actually do is pretty simple. The only reason i am taking this class is so i can take networking next year.

kill he person giving you the examination, then staple his hand to the exam and send it in along with a threatening letter demanding a perfect score.

I wasn't watching them as we were in groups putting together different computers. When I did see the fire I didn't try to put it out because I had another problem. I couldn't breathe because I was laughing so hard. It was the only computer that was destroyed that day.

Hey guys im taking an A+ certification exam on thursday. I one of the better students in the class. I was just wondering if you guys had any tips for me that I use to help me prepare for this exam. This does not include doing anything illegal or stupid.
Do some crack.
And right before, takes loads of coffee, and stay up the night before revising, so you don't forget a thing. But definitely do some Loads of crack.

You say you can do something, but your potential employer would want proof. They won't waste your (and their) time by giving you an exam about what you know to prove it when a certification will be just as good. This I learned from my limited time (10 weeks) as an intern. Moral of the story: GET THOSE CERTIFICATES!

The worst thing that has happened in my class so far is that a grasshopper crawled onto one kids CMOS battery and melted to it. Wrecked the motherboard.

probably won't help you much because I'm somewhat insane, but I never even think about the test until I'm about to take it. I don't study, I don't bring it to mind, I just ignore it until I get to it. If I try too hard to study and crap I get all edgy and forgetful and panicky.

So far I got straight As in college without worrying myself, though I'm probably mentally damaged in some way.

I had no idea grasshoppers could melt. How did it get in there and did it make any kind of interesting noise while being horribly electrocuted and killed?

Put the RAM in incorre- What? How can people be so incompetent. I managed to put my DDR2 RAM in my PC with no foulups, first time. Hell, I installed my Graphics card myself, and the network router. It's not as if it's hyper-specialised stuff.

Programming, however, is more specialised than anything short of neurosurgery.

I did this exam about 4 or 5 years ago.
what I did was test my self on every subject and then study my weakest and repeated that until I got a pass on everything.
But good luck

I recently passed the A+ exam and didnt find it too bad at all. As long as you have read the material and you keep going over the bits you have trouble with you will do fine. It not true to say that employers dont look for C+ certifications because they do. It show you have experience working with hardware as opposed to only dealing with software.

Best of luck to you.

Take it from someone who actually has the A+, read that textbox from cover to cover a couple of times. Nods to Vallance but I don't recall seeing that question, though considering the OS X certification had the same thing in it, I tend to believe it was in there. And don't stress about it too much, just remember figures and stats and you'll be fine, it's damned near impossible to fail it IMHO.

Certification exam? for what? an A+? I wasn't aware I needed to be certified to get perfect scores. Maybe that's why I got that one point of on that history test.
It's a certification for computer technicians. It deals with standard desktop hardware and Windows software. (Google is your friend.)

In other words, something that won't get you any work because places that hire computer techs want someone that has experience, not classes.
Actually, IIRC, a lot places in Europe won't hire you if you don't have it.
never heard of such a thing. i never even heard about A+ cerficates. i currently live in europe.
