I dunno if it's been said or not, but how about a Post Post-Apocalyptic setting? Civilization is back on the rise, nuclear fallout still a problem, just not as much. Or however someone else thinks about it. I think it would be an interesting setting, sort of like a futuristic wild west in my opinion.
Fallout series? also fallen earth i think

Falckland, already done. Most historical campaings and wars where done in the 80 and beging of 90s as strategie games, there are tones made by small companies back then.

Fallout in my mind is still post apocalyptic since there's no large governmental control, like if the NCR (don't have too much knowledge of in-game lore side from what's on wikipedia of the series) had control over what was the US or equivalent. I was thinking more along the lines of a government that didn't have full law of the land, so lawlessness still was rampant. Can't really speak for Fallen Earth since I've never played, but maybe.

How 'bout a setting where humans eat zombies, and zombies are the ones trying to survive the human outbreak?

A GOOD game where you're a shapeshifter of somesort, like a werewolf or vampire that doesn't glitter or completely ripped with muscles and a sexy accent.

Also one where you're a regular town boy that doesn't have his family slaughtered or any immediate threats, just growing up in an immersive environment without splattering the scenery with gore or angtsy tears.

Homeless, you are a hobo. The total map is relatively small but an incredible amount of interaction possible. emphasis on not only survival but bettering your hobo life
