First, please define what you mean by middle of the line.

It can run most games, just not exceptionally well.

Yeah... what I meant was specs. Give us CPU, Video and RAM.
Besides, although not multiplayer (because I'm not really a mutliplayer kind of person), I can only recommend Mass Effect. Granted, it's not really a shooter, but it's the greatest single player experience I've had in years, and if you're a shooter person with a knack for tactics and don't mind some excessive dialogue, you'll like it.

This or F.E.A.R. as well.

ArmA is also good if you patch it up and get the right mods, but be prepared for brutal realism.

I'm downloading the free multiplayer component of FEAR right now, should be done in a while...

How about the slower-paced, highly-realistic, super-tense Red Orchestra? It is my favorite online shooter. It's like Team Fortress 2 except you need to conserve your ammo and make effective use of cover.

That seems really interesting. I'll be sure to check that out, but I'm pretty sure my neighbor told me about that game once... I'll see.

Battlefield 2 is all I can recommend if you're looking for massive FPS action with people. Left 4 Dead if you prefer 3 other comrades VS infinite CPU hordes.

I returned BF2 because of the endless glitches that made it impossible to get into the actual game.

I opened the EA download manager to play some Spore out of boredom, and BF2142 started downloading. Pretty cool.

Get Battlefield: Bad Company and the Half-Life games.

I rented Bad Company once, great fun. But I'm trying to find some fun PC titles since the outlook on my ability to keep paying for Live is pretty bleak.

Get the Valve Pack.

i liked gears 2 becuz its like shooting here bloody goodness there then some more shooting and chain saws on a gun awsome
