A Legitimate /thread

For the life of me, I've never seen someone ever type '/thread' that turned out to actually be the deciding be-all-end-all final argument for a thread. It's always someone getting too arrogant for their boots only to be proven wrong in the very next post. It's like some idiot screaming out 'first post' and finding every single time that they were wrong.

So I would love to know if anyone's spotted one that actually did it's job. Anywhere. If there is a single /thread that actually /ed a thread. Does ANYONE know of one that exists? And what's the /thread that has failed harder than any /thread you've seen in the history of /threading? I think finding one that did it's job properly would be harder than finding a needle in a haystack.

Oh, and in b4 someone /threads this thread, just in case anyone's thinking about it, just had to say that I saw you coming a mile off. Also- learn to put forward an argument already!

Yeah /threading annoys me. It sounds so arrogant and it is like saying "NO I AM RIGHT, NO MORE POSTING!"

I don't mind it so much really, but you're right, most people don't deserve to invoke the mighty /thread because their arguments and opinions are wrong and/or stupid.

/threading your own reply is incredibly arrogant. /threading someone else is basically just saying "Ok, that was awesome, and I totally agree." So it's basically a compliment. It does annoy me when people just put "/thread" though, and don't provide their own input.

The urge to write it now is overpowering.......

I believe they can be pretty funny sometimes when used appropriately, but in a serious argument, if you /thread yourself you probably look like a tool.

I hate it when people do it wil just a word.

For example: In your opinion, who it your favourite Super Smash Bros Character and why?

Response: Samus /thread

Like... Does the opinion part actually not matter at all? Or why you liek them? I personally find samus slow and clunky...it's just a dick move.

I hate the majority of the time when I see people do it, because they say something completely pointless, and have the sense of them thinking they are a snarky asshole, when whatever they say before it just isn't even relevant to the thread.

Yeah I see it all the time, but there's no real counter for it. I understand why you hate it
Oh I'm not necessarily saying that I hate them, though it is prety much an instant 'look at me I'm a tool' marker. Just curious if one has ever been good enough to live up to it's intentions.

I gotta admit there are some rare cases where quoting someone else before a /thread has been pure gold. Though those moments are few and far between. I can't even think of one off the top of my head.

Well I figure there has to be SOME cases or there just wouldn't be any point in trying it, would there?

Well, it's actually against the rules to call /thread on your post. It just feels wrong to /thread my own post, and besides it more fun when someone else does it.

I think /threading can be pretty funny! People aren't being serious you know, they're just using it to emphasise their point and add a little bit of humour.

No need to get your knickers in a twist guys!

On the "Weapons in your home?" thread, I listed pretty much every household item, surface, structural support, piece of furniture, up to the rifles and archery equipment in my house. some went "Holy crap, you listed EVERYTHING" and /Threaded for me. lol

Self /threading is the most annoying thing I've ever come across on the Escapist that isn't ban-worthy. I hate it and find it extremely arrogant/pretentious. However, /threading someone else can be quite the compliment. That I've got no issues with.

I don't mind doing it to other people. I rarely do it as it is since it isn't often someones opinion ends a thread or have an answer so epic it should be the end of a thread.

That holds true when /thread-ing other people. If their point is really that good then it can stand on its own other people will /thread it. Otherwise they may as well just write /smug

I did see a thread once that had the last post as a /thread. I would have posted, but I didn't want to ruin it.

I have no problem with /threading other people, as long as you add something else to your post. It can be quite a compliment.

Self /threading though, that's just a different thing altogether. I just don't get how arrogant you have to be to automatically assume that your opinion supersedes any other opinion in the thread and indeed any opinion that may come after. It pisses me off.
I did it once during one of the random phases of riddles where people who make a thread around one riddle. I was the first to post and I had the answer and ended it with /thread.

The only legitimate "/thread" is the Banhammer. Or in my case, the Bansword. Anything else is just an attempt to gain attention to one's (generally facetious and terrible) argument. Or it's a fanboy/hater.

As a response to posts, in a similar fashion as "this" is used it displays nothing but a disregard for the basic forum etiquette of effort in posting. For example this post has taken about 5 minutes to conceptualise and construct. I've cut bits out, edited the spelling (Thank the intergods for Mozilla Spell-check, right?) and re-considered some of the points I'm making. Of course, half of that time has been spent upping the sense of superiority brought about by putting that much time into a post. It's a balancing work of fine art and self-satire.

For example this post has taken about 5 seconds to copypaste and edit. I've edited bits in, haven't even edited the spelling (never used Mozilla Spell-check, but why should I, right?) and not even thought about re-considering some of the points I'm making. Of course, half of that time has been spent upping the sense of stupidity brought about by putting that little time into, or submitting genuine post, of my own. It's a balancing work of complete disregard for originality and self-satire.

I only consider them to be accurate when someone answers a question with a definite answer, such as a math problem or who invented the Halo 3.
