Do you think a My Little Pony game licensed by Hasbro would sell? Maybe an open world game? I mean, the brony fanbase is quite sizable. Or do you think it would get dismissed as a shovelware game, since games based on shows like MLP are ususally of decidedly poor quality? I think it would make quite a bit of money. Honestly, I'm surprised they haven't already made a game based on MLP.

No idea about the quality, but I imagine they're aimed more at the traditional target market than the brony crowd (which isn't to say the game would be bad, of course). I believe there are a couple of mobile mlp games as well, so it's out there if you're looking for it.

Well, yeah, but I meant a game based on FiM. I think an open world game where you explore Equestria and meet Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Fluttershy, and the others would have a lot of potential.

In that case there's a mobile game [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Little_Pony:_Friendship_Is_Magic_%28video_game%29] that fits the bill. I'm not a pony fan, but I admire they way they market their stuff (that they took the non-target market popularity and ran with it seems to have made them good money and been good for the franchise), so I'd think that if there was a demand for something more it would already exist.

Will a MLP game that is good sell? Yes. We can just as well start comitti design it right here:

What is FiM about?
What is FiM's themes?
How can those themes be expressed through gameplay?
What is the player arc?
What do people like about the licence? What do fans wanna see?
Does it exist a template that can be used? And what modifications do it need to fit thematically?

Haha, I just imagined a My Little Pony game by Telltale, although I can't imagine the 3D models looking the most....fluid. I would still buy it, though.

Let me shake my magic eight ball. "All signs point to no." There is the tablet game, but I don't think there much chance for a full-sized game. Even though MLP has a fare size adult and adult male fanbase, the core target is still little girls and girl games have the worst reception in video game land.

It is kind of fun to think about how you would do a MLP game though. I kind of imagine the setting would work really well as a harvest-moon/animal crossing like game. Because the ponies are in charge of all aspects of their world including weather and tending to animals, you can do some interesting things with customization. Nothing in the game world would be outside of your overview. Also the different kinds of ponies could be a neat multiplayer/co-op aspect.

Hence why I said that it would be dismissed as shovelware.

I was also thinking about making it similar to Animal Crossing, where you build relationships with the ponies. Great minds think alike, eh?

It's kind of the most logical place to take the idea. You could do other things with it though. There is that fan made fighting game. :p

I think the intended audience of the game would be too young to understand a game with much complexity, features like open-world and exploration would just be confusing for a child of that age.

I get that MLP has an enjoyment from an older audience too, but, this isn't the main portion of those who watch the show and it'd be difficult to justify making a game for a relatively small fringe.

SOLD! I'd totally buy that.

I too have wondered if there will ever be a true Friendship is Magic video game. Assuming that it is not just targeted to the cliche of little girls (just like the show isn't targeted to that cliche), I would most likely pick it up. I'd love to wander around Ponyville as Twilight or Rarity.

There are plenty of fan based ones out there, I actually haven't played any, but some like Fighting is Magic looked pretty impressive. If they would license a 'Spyro' type game it could make for a pretty great experience for the younger audience as well as the older ones. I just don't think Hasbro wants to risk going through on it, it failing, and losing much of the fandom, or just straight not being profitable.

the only 'official' MLP FiM game I know of, and I assume your referring to FiM, is a 'cow clicker' :/

...yay...

other then that? donno. They could go full on old school 'JRPG' on it and make a fairly decent RPG out of it though, with interchangeable party members and such.

and it'd would probably still be better then any of the main number FF games since 9

Really? Getting to meet characters from the show is you're only you're only criteria?

OT: it would probably sell well if one was made. But i have no idea how it could be made good... Or even sell outside the brony crowd.

Capcha: more better. Wow. Just wow

It would be cash-grab shovelware aimed at small children who don't expect anything decent in a game. A good MLP game would pretty much only come from fans (not that I am one). The official market for MLP is still, and has always really been, small children.

*puts on his Yahtzee cosplay*

In short, no.
In long, nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

The genre is aimed at little girls, and "Little girls don't buy games". They won't put resources towards it, they won't spend time polishing a script and it will BE shovelware. Not because there isn't potential in it (I frankly have no idea if there is or not), but because most adults won't think that there is, and so won't put time into doing it right.
