Well, they don't have to be enemies, right? What if there are Jaegers, Godzilla AND Aliens? What if Jaegers and Godzilla team-up?Strain42 said:And on a similar note, what's with this whole talk of Godzilla/Pacific Rim cross-over? Who else thinks that sounds like a terrible idea? Both series kinda have their own rules and structure set up, and I don't think they would play well off each other. Besides, who do you even root for? No Godzilla fan wants Godzilla to lose, but Jaegers aren't supposed to lose either. Would it just be like most vs. movies that end in some stalemate?
Hmm...I guess I never really thought about it that way. Sort of a Jet Jaguar type deal. I suppose that could work. You have thoroughly convinced me. I now believe that a crossover between the two doesn't have to be a horrible idea (still not a fan of the idea, but I guess it's true it doesn't simply have to be a Godzilla/Jaeger throwdown. They could potentially do something interesting with the idea)Mister K said:Well, they don't have to be enemies, right? What if there are Jaegers, Godzilla AND Aliens? the aliens have the technology to open up a new one, if they can open 1 up, what makes you think they couldn't open up another? how about say? in the Atlantic, and call it Atlantic Rim.Somethingfake said:Can't see how they would go about making another film, the portal got closed off at the end of the first one after all.
i guess you haven't watched Gundam, Evangelion, Full Metal Panic!, Gurren Lagan, Patlabor, S.T.R.A.I.N., Majestic Prince, Mawaru Penguin Drum, etc. as they make about as much sense.synobal said:It doesn't need a sequel. The original movie while fun made 0 sense. The plot and story was such a mess that if it had tried to sell itself as more than excuse to watch giant robots beat up giant monsters I'd of been more disappointed than I was when I caught it in theaters.
But of course this is hollywood who are more deadset on destroying any profitable franchise second only to the games industry. So it will get a sequel, and another sequel and another sequel until its no longer profitable.
i guess it is safe to assume that you never watched Grown Ups 2, or the latest Scary Movie? i guess you don't see very many movies throughout the year.sneakypenguin said:Ugh the worst movie of last year by far. I hated every bit of it... the one movie i've almost walked out on.

here is an idea, we royally pissed them off with that suicide bombing run, so the come back to get revenge.truckspond said:I quite liked the original movie but I don't think that there is enough room for a sequel. As others have pointed out the Kaiju invasion was stopped. And the makers of the Kaiju were given a good idea of what it's like to have an intruder enter their world and destroy stuff after Gypsy Danger became a suicide bomber.
I think that the writers have written themselves into a corner here and it will interesting to see if they can avoid a Deus Ex Machina setup for the second movie
But how do they get here? They already know that we can shut off their access on demand and since they are in another dimension they can't exactly travel through "conventional" space to get here. I suppose that they could go to another planet and send them in through spaceships but that has one major flaw: They can be detected by radar/sonar/lidar and shot down/intercepted before they landKeiichi Morisato said:here is an idea, we royally pissed them off with that suicide bombing run, so the come back to get revenge.truckspond said:I quite liked the original movie but I don't think that there is enough room for a sequel. But look at those other films he mentioned. A couple of them had lower budgets, but films like Star Trek and Batman Begins made less money from similar production budgets, but are considered big successes that never had any question that sequels would be produced. Pacific Rim may not have been the most successful film ever, but it's easily on a par with lots of other films that did well enough to justify a continued franchise.antidonkey said:Sure, 400 million is an impressive number but when you factor in the production budget of almost 200 million, that makes those numbers not overly great since you have to bring in other sources of cost that aren't always accounted for publicly, like marketing.
