As I went to see what today's news was on Aol.com, I saw something... interesting.
http://www.aolnews.com/2011/04/16/spring-spheres-easter-eggs-get-politically-correct-video/

Basically, a school is trying to make Easter eggs hunts politically correct by calling easter eggs "spring spheres". At first, I thought this was some sort of elaborate joke just to take a stab at how ridiculous political correctness can be, but no.
This is a serious thing.

Is it really that important to change the name of Easter Eggs to Spring Spheres? If you don't celebrate the religious side of Easter, that's cool. I know a lot of people who throw Easter Egg hunts for kids but don't celebrate the religious side of the holiday.

Also, an egg isn't a sphere, so the name "spring sphere" is technically incorrect. >_>

But really, Spring Sphere?

This makes sense, considering that Saint Peter was actually a rabbit, making the easter bunny side of the holiday incredibly religious.
Similar to how Christmas Break became Holiday Break and the such.

I have always felt terribly insulted by the word "egg", so I completely agree with this.

It's gone completely mad. Spring holiday. Saying happy holidays instead of merry christmas. If they keep doing this I'll start killing hostages.

If you celebrate it just for the eggs then your basicaly mooching off our religious holiday. If you change the name completely then you should just go home and not bother celebrating.

According to that video, nobody knew anything about it except the one person claiming they were forced to rename it. Sounds fishy.

Anyway, as mentioned, Easter has nothing to do with christianity. It's just another spring festival, nominally co-opted by Christians, yes, but they've only gone and added hot cross buns to the same stuff people were doing beforehand.

I for one now celebrate
"The religiously non-denominational spring festival of chocolate egg hunting"
I don't really find it that all important to rename it and I'm not a christian so I just sort of think it as a holiday that Christians renamed themselves like Christmas (Winter Solstice), although perhaps if I were a Muslim or a Jew or a Hindu I would want for the holiday to no longer be associated with Christianity so that people of my religion could share in on the fun without betraying their god(s)/beliefs...

Really? I thought it was the trillions in bone-crushing debt... Or perhaps the two party system... and then there are all of the other factors....

True, but since Easter is celebrate on the same day Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, then that presumably makes it a Christian holiday.
And I got the source from AOL, but I checked other sites and sure enough, its news there too.

I'll be damned before I refer to Easter as anything other than "Resurrection Rabbit Day."

As in, the day Jesus came back from the dead and wanted to celebrate, so he gave eggs colored by wine to children and then played hide and seek with them while he was transformed into a rabbit.

[sub]I'm going to hell for that, aren't I?[/sub]

This is ridiculous. Some people need to just chill out and stop getting offended every time someone believes something different to them. Don't like Easter? Don't eat Easter eggs. Just don't try and change everything, especially if you're going to do it with a name as dumb as "Spring spheres".

Okay, I'm pretty pro-religious PC, being a pagan (we are always left out) so normally I'd be all for things like this (for instance, I love "happy holidays" because there are like a dozen holidays at the winter solstice besides just Christmas).

But Spring Sphere? No. That is just stupid.

Eggs are fine - eggs have NOTHING to do with Christianity. In fact, the Eggs from easter are actually Ostara eggs from the Pagan holiday that Easter was based on.

For that matter, Easter has nothing to do with Christianity either, since Christ was killed at an entirely different time of year, and the dates were later adjusted to coincide with the pagan holiday of Ostara. Other than Christians going to church, none of their traditions have anything to do with Christianity.

South Park aside, the Easter Bunny, Easter Eggs, Easter Candy - all Pagan. Easter is actually a really good holiday to be a Pagan, actually, because we get all of the cool stuff without having to go to church. ^^

So yeah... Spring Spheres... is the stupidest thing I've heard in years. It sounds more like a holiday to celebrate the Weighted Companion Sphere from the hard mode in Portal 1.

I think you're forgetting something very important. A lot of people view Easter as a Christian holiday. Remember, Christian holidays are bad, mmkay? Everytime a Christian holiday comes up, we have to change it and make it less "offensive" to other people who want to celebrate the festivities without being sacrilegious.

Makes me scared that they're going to change the Fourth of July to "Happy Hopping Firework Day". Can't offend the British people on the 4th, so we need to change the name.
